Zicarelli's weekend article (http://slam.canoe.com/Slam/Football/CFL/Toronto/2017/06/10/22730280.html) talks a bit about Bear Woods and William Campbell. Considering that those six "dreaded" players are all projected starters, yeah, we're probably going to have a lot of dreadlocks flying around.

A bit early to be giving units nicknames, I admit, but if they play well I hope this one takes off.

Hopefully the "dreaded D" not the "dreadful D".
Not a big fan of nicknames TBH, the "swaggerville" crap in Winnipeg was obnoxious a few years ago.

So you don't like "Pinball", "CO2", "The Flyin' Hawaiian"... ?

Well I like it - & hope it sticks.
A nickname gives the team some identity for the casual fan!

Let's see this D accomplish something before we start with the cute nicknames.
Pinball is ok, as far as Owens is concerned I now prefer the "Fumblin Hawaiian".

Yes Swaggerville annoyed me too. Sounds like a 2 bit town.

We like things that bring young men together as a unit. Pride in identity is an important aspect of it. Military commanders have long known this, thus patches and identifiers like guidon's, colours and nicknames like "The Irish Brigade," "The Winnipeg Rifles," "The Black Hats," "The Stonewall Brigade," prove the necessary element of pride, sacrifice and ownership.

The NFL has created a mythology around the nicknames ascribed to defences in the 1970's and 1980's, but you don't see that as much anymore.

The "Dreaded D" is a great idea, but one that needs to be backed up on the field first.

That's exactly the point, prove something on the field then apply the catchy nickname (if you have to).

When I first read the title I associated "dreaded" with last year's defence from a negative point of view. However, I have to admit that Popp's additions give me hope for a major improvement this year.

If last weeks game is an indicator the Argo D will be drastically improved this season.

It's a good thing we didn't have names for the secondary's of the past 3 seasons. They wouldn't have been complimentary. It was the part of the team that Jim Barker let slide the most and it was part of his undoing.

I agree, Barker could never quite get the right personnel back there after 2013.

If Victor Butler wore dreadlocks, this brand would already have traction! Sadly I think we'll have to settle for "having a very good defence" this year.
