The draft starts at 3 but the riders have already stated that they pick ben heenan first.

No surprise there I guess.
I hope we take a defensive player in the first 2 rounds.

I would prefer that we pick a player who can help out in some way in the near future regardless of position. I don't think that we necessarily need to draft a Canadian offensive lineman as I consider our depth there to be pretty good as is but there is an old CFL saying that you can never have enough Canadian offensive linemen. I just want us to pick someone who will be in camp this year and can at least make a contribution on special teams.

Why is Rod Black on my TV?:(

Trade (not official yet): Winnipeg gives two second round picks to Hamilton for their first (3rd overall)

Heenan to Sask, Esks are next. Let's see how much camera time Tillman tries to hog.

Another trade: BC gets #2 and #20 from Edmonton for the #4, #14 and #30 picks (I think).

Jabar Westerman, DL E. Michigan, goes second to BC.

I don't have a problem with players that stick around on practice rosters. At least in those cases there is still interest from the team that signed them. But when you see a guy like Reinders, not even end up on the practice roster, and still decides to not sign up here, it just makes me shake my head.

Agreed. I wonder how Reinders pays the bills?

It just seems like players who hang on NFL practise rosters for that length of time give me the impression they will do anything to avoid playing in Canada.

I gotcha, but the practice roster money comes out to making $91K a year, so that's still more than he likely would have made on his first CFL contract.

When the decision after the NFL no longer has an interest is get a real job or play in the CFL, that decision should be easy as pie.

Winnipeg-Hamilton trade is official, Bombers are next.

argolio
05-03-2012, 03:29 PM
Bombers select OL Tyson Pencer, Wash. St.

"First off the board pick" says Duane Forde.

The theme of the first 3 picks is take players who can help right away. The theme of the 4th pick is we can wait until September, or for a year or 2 (or 3, or never).

argolio
05-03-2012, 03:37 PM
OL Austin Pasztor from Virgina goes to the Esks.

Could be a risky pick since he has NFL aspirations.

argolio
05-03-2012, 03:46 PM
Stamps take Wofford DL Ameet Pall.

Wonder how much further Chambers will fall.

Argocister
05-03-2012, 03:46 PM
Looks like NCAA players are considered tops..... Or maybe it's just their positions they play

KCargosfan
05-03-2012, 03:53 PM
Esks take Chambers -- solid pick imo.

argolio
05-03-2012, 03:53 PM
And there goes Chambers to the Esks.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:02 PM
Calgary OL Kirby Fabien goes to the Lions with the last pick of the first round.

Argos are two picks away.

Will Plesius be the one?

05-03-2012, 04:06 PM
Will Plesius be the one?I'll predict him or Matt Norman.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:11 PM
Tabbies take No. Illinois DB Courtney Stephen, who has another year of NCAA eligibility.

KCargosfan
05-03-2012, 04:12 PM
Wonder about that guy from Western Kentucky as well to possibly back-up Foley?

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:18 PM
Guys in the final top ten ranking still available: 1) Tyrone Crawford, 5) Frederic Plesius, 6) Christo Bilukidi, 9) Simon Charbonneau-Campeau, and 10) Matt Norman.

Cleyon Laing..... Another one that will never make it to TO?

KCargosfan
05-03-2012, 04:21 PM
No immediate help there.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:21 PM
Cleyon Laing..... Another one that will never make it to TO?We did the same thing the Ticats did with pick before us -- a guy with another year of NCAA eligibility who will very likely come north in 2013.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:25 PM
Dave Naylor explained it very well: after the high-end guys are gone, teams have to decide whether it's better to draft a guy who'll be here in a year, or a guy who will come to camp this year but may or may not be as good.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:26 PM
And the Tabbies take Plesius from Laval.

We're not up again until #24.

05-03-2012, 04:28 PM
I'm depressed now as Plesius goes to the cats.........:(
He will be playing this year for sure.

Cleyon Laing..... Another one that will never make it to TO?

He doesn't seem like he is on the NFL radar at the moment although an outstanding senior could change that, I suppose. However, I suspect that we will see Laing in Toronto in another year.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:35 PM
Als take Laval RB Patrick Lavoie from Laval. He must be ecstatic.

FYI, and barring any trades, we pick 24th and 28th (4th round), 32nd (5th round), 40th and 41st (6th round).

In a trade with the Stamps, the Riders take Calgary LB Sam Hurl #12 overall.

Just a random thought -- with Ottawa being allowed limited participation in next year's draft, getting it right in the draft becomes that much harder.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:46 PM
Tabbies go o-line with Carson Rockhill from Calgary.

argolio
05-03-2012, 04:55 PM
Simon Fraser DL Simon Capicciotti to Edmonton closes out the second round.

Have you checked out this guys stats, Cleyon Laing. He'll have to have a better year because he's done SQUAT!!!!! Big deal he's big and Canadian. He hasn't proved that he can play in NCAA ball yet. What a waste of a pick. Why do Argo fans get excited about this friggin day? The Argonaut organization never takes this day seriously. The teams who do well year in and year out have great Canadian talent. I'm pissed!!!

argolio
05-03-2012, 05:09 PM
So you're all excited about a mini-camp where all they do is throw and catch without any defenders on the field, but you trash the Argos because they take a kid you know nothing about.

And I thought only Leaf fans were bi-polar.

This team has sucked and we pick a guy who most likely will never see a CFL field when there's talent all over that will be in our league next year. I didn't think we'd piss away our only pick in the first three rounds. You really know it all don't you? You just love to get your little shots in eh? I've found that about these Argo boards. There are the the folks who know it all and the ones like myself who get ripped for showing any emotion good or bad. I'll be the next to F right off of this site just as many others have.
How can anyone know anything about a kid who basically has zero stats. Is he a real nice fellow. F@#K!!!

3rd round:

15 MacDougall, Keenan DB Saskatchewan Calgary Stampeders via SSK
16 Aprile, Johnny WR Queen's Winnipeg Blue Bombers via TOR
17 Gascon-Nadon, Arnaud DL Laval Hamilton Tiger-Cats
18 Adebayo, Bo DL Western Kentucky Montreal Alouettes
19 Peach, Billy OL Jacksonville University Calgary Stampeders
20 Atkinson, Michael DL Boise State Hamilton Tiger-Cats via BC via EDM
21 Bilukidi, Christo DE Georgia State Winnipeg Blue Bombers
22 Norman, Matthew OL Western BC Lions via HAM

I was hoping we'd get Norman.

Ticats take WR Simon Charbonneau-Campeau from Sherbrooke, which might make a few people groan.

At #32 we pick TE Luke Wilson from Rice.

Interesting credentials if he makes it here.

argolio

I'd like to see us get Nathan Riva in the 6th round if he's still there.

ArgoGabe22
05-03-2012, 05:48 PM
I thought Luke Wilson signed with the Blue Jays to play baseball. Great poker face lol. I'm disappointed by the lack of CIS draftees by the Argos. None so far. NVM I missed Hurst.

ArgoRavi
05-03-2012, 05:50 PM
Interesting draft so far for the Argos. Tonye-Tonye was rated as high as #13th overall at one point. We will likely see our first two picks in 2013 while Hurst should be in camp this year. Willson is a guy who might never show up with the Argos but, if he does, could be the steal of this draft.

argolio
05-03-2012, 05:58 PM
Round 5 is in the books:

31 Filer, Mike OL Mount Allison Calgary Stampeders via WPG via SSK
32 Willson, Luke TE Rice Toronto Argonauts
33 Palmer, Daronn SB Simon Fraser Hamilton Tiger-Cats
34 Roy, Bryn LB Texas A&M Commerce Montreal Alouettes
35 Régimbald-Gagné, Kevin LB Sherbrooke Saskatchewan Roughriders via CGY
36 Hazime, Hasan DE Akron Edmonton Eskimos
37 Verdone, Jordan LB Calgary BC Lions via WPG
38 King, Ryan LB Saint Mary's Edmonton Eskimos via BC

We've got #40 and 41 in the 6th.

argolio
05-03-2012, 06:03 PM
At #40, LB Aaron Crawford from St. Mary's.

argolio
05-03-2012, 06:06 PM
At #41, Shea Pierre, DB from Windsor.

It's nice to see all the local players we drafted. It plays a huge role for the community. I think only Shea Pierre is considered local. Would have liked to see Wilkerson d'Souza drafted by the Argos.

Now the question is who will sign the QBs as undrafted FAa?

argolio
05-03-2012, 06:15 PM
6th and final round:

39 Bamba, Ismaël WR Sherbrooke Saskatchewan Roughriders
40 Crawford, Aaron LB Saint Mary's Toronto Argonauts
41 Pierre, Shea DB Windsor Toronto Argonauts via HAM
42 Parker, Keynan DB Oregon State Montreal Alouettes
43 Spence, Jordan DL Eastern Oregon University Calgary Stampeders
44 White, Ryan OL Bishop's Montreal Alouettes via EDM
45 Desouza, Wilkerson LB Toronto Calgary Stampeders via WPG

So no QBs, no Nathan Riva, and no Mac o-lineman Medeiros (sp?).
