The purpose of this thread is to get a general idea about what other people think of banners in the endzone.

The story so far:

Some of the fan groups that sit in the south end of BMO stadium hang Argonaut banners a la soccer style. I will not mention the names of the groups. On several occasions now the fans have been asked by security to move or remove the banners because they were covering sponsors logos. At the last game vs Winnipeg, security referenced that Jim Barker (and Trestman?) had personally asked the fans to not to hang banners in the south end.

Is hanging banners a good idea?

Personally, I think this is trying to mimic the TFC supporters too much and it looks bad on the Argos and the CFL. There is soccer support and then there is CFL support. The banners make a situation where the Argos are trying to get established at BMO more difficult than it already is.

Any thoughts on this subject??

I'm sure many of you have seen the banners I am talking about if you have been at the games this year.

1) Not wanting banners hung over sponsors is a no brainer. It makes sense.

2) Comparing football to soccer, the banners could cause a distraction with tracking the ball or seeing the play clock. I don't think the coach's requests are 100% BS.

I assume that you mean Jim Popp not Jim Barker.

I understand not wanting to cover the sponsors logos but we definitely need all the atmosphere that we can get. Maybe they could just hang the banners lower? Below the sponsors logos.

Agree. Or the team should provide an open spot along there where banners can be hung.

Unless security doesn't know that Popp is the GM now.

I support and understand not hanging banners over the ads but everything else should be fair game. Why not hang them? If the end zone is full of fans and they are enjoying the game and it is soccer style I could care less.

I'm with you on this. Anything that makes the experience better for fans.

According to Mike hook, as long as our banners are not covering sponsor logos, it's fine. I was there at halftime when this went down, and it was people on either side of the double blue order crew who were at fault.

It has been taken care of and all is well.

Good to hear its been resolved. I hope it has. Seems like every week there is an incident with security.

This is great news. The Argos need all the signs of fan enthusiasm they can get.
