Sad news, Maple Leaf legend Johnny Bower passed away today.
Humility and class all the way, R.I.P.

Bower alway had time for his fans:
“I can’t say no to these kids. Because when I was a child during Depression times we had nothing at all.
Like my dad said it costs you nothing for a smile. Just go ahead and work and do your job and be good to people and they’ll be good to you”

I can personally attest to Johnny Bower living up to the above quote.
When I was a very young child my older brother fell of his bike and hit his chin on a fire hydrant and was rushed to hospital for stitches, Johnny Bower happened to be at the hospital at the same time and went out of his way to assure my brother that he would be ok as he too had also had many stitches and was fine.
Wonderful kind hearted man who will be missed!

I had the same barber as Johnny Bower and used to see him from time to time. Just lived down the road from me in Mississauga. Mr. Bower would be at multiple signing events (he is quite popular) and once said that he'll always do it as long as the fans keep wanting his signature and secondly the money he gets is for his grandchildren.

Sad to hear of Johnny's passing. He was always one of my favourite Leaf players, not only for his sterling goaltending and the four Stanley Cups he helped win by always shining in the playoffs, but for his humility and grace.
