Those drops in revenue and season ticket sales are troubling...

When you take your sponsors and ticket holders for granted. You will lose business. City is still football mad. They can straighened things out. They need to sell five thousand season tickets, 10 boxes and attract a half a dozen sponsors. Not the end of the world if they put the right people in place and let them work.

This Lalonde guy sounds like a real headcase and definitely not a people person that should be running any operation.
As for the Als, just a minor blip in the overall scheme of things.

Any manager in the 21st century who thinks family photos on the desk have to be removed when it has been accepted practice is looking for trouble on a subject of insignificance. A good manager determines what are the major items that needs to be corrected and leaves the rest alone, at least initially until people accept the new approach, because in the case of minor issues the costs outweigh the benefits. Furthermore, the manager who tries to micromanage every detail is usually seen as arrogant. Lalonde's style was inviting an early dismissal from the start both internally and externally with sponsors and fans.

I agree but there is always three sides to a story.

It's Montreal. The minute The Als show any signs of crapping out the fans will stop coming.

The Alouettes have been in the same position that the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche were when they moved from Minnesota and Quebec City respectively. They were successful for a long time, but once they slipped so did the fanbase a little bit. It remains to be seen whether the same rule will apply to the Als.

Football is huge in Quebec. 9 of the 26 CIS draftees came from Quebec this year and that's on top of Crawford, Blake who played in the CEGEP system. Football in Montreal is healthy. They just need to work as hard on the business side as they do fielding a great team.

The one good thing to come from this is that tickets are available and I have two for the Argos visit on July 27th. Looking forward to Molson Stadium.

This is good to hear. As I mentioned in my Newfoundland thread, I still can't believe that the CFL East ends in Montreal.

Just goes to prove that even when Montreal was playing in front of 20,000 the Al's made money. Over 6 million in Corp support, private TV deal, the highest ticket prices in the league. You can run a CFL team at 15 million if you watch your expenses, so the Al's will do just find.

Great ownership in Montreal and he's been doing quite well. It is a private business and the idea is to run it as close to break even as possible while the value of the business increases. Besides himself, he has his wife and his two sons on the payroll plus the team is paying for the expensive condos he owns in Old Montreal (they start at close to a million a pop) and their expense accounts.

Actually i was surprised to see on ticketmaster that at least 22,000 tix have been sold per game with 500 available in the family zone (20 dollars a kid and 40 for an adult) and about 1 000 in the cheapest seats. I expect we can average 23,000+ but no sell outs this year for sure. The core of fans is still very strong.

They'll be honouring the 1981 expos at the half time show here june 14. Warren Cromartie has started the Montreal Baseball Project and will have a bunch of activities over the weekend. Too bad none of our two pre-season games are televised. Replaced by US Open golf and Euro 2012. *snooze*.

Is there any chance that RDS might carry the Als' home preseason game at least?
