Pre-season and Vanilla

I realize that the exhibition games are only part of the evaluation process for new players, however, given that (i) Argo practices are non-contact and (ii) the Argos featured a vanilla offence + defence (and I understand why) doesn't it handicap the 1st year players looking to make the team to a degree?

I think it would, but it's anevaulation, so they'd be looking more at speed, hands, and how well the players would understand the playbook/coverages. It's been like that forever, but I think the lack of padded practices will hurt the quality of play over time.
