Thanks for the suggestions on the other thread, I enjoyed reading all of them.

Now the real work begins, and I'm looking for more ideas. How do we take some of those great memories and implement them at BMO Field? We talked about somersault guy, but how do we do that without it seeming staged? It sounds like part of the fun of watching him was that he was just a random fan having more fun...and THAT'S something we want to do each and every game day, make the outing as much fun as possible, which is the reason why I posted this in the first place. If something mentioned here is potentially transferable we'd love to know.

For instance, some of you mentioned travelling to the game, including the walk. Some of you may not think much of it, but it you're making the trek from the Shipyard to the game with (depending on your age) your peers, your child, or your grandchild, they might be talking about that 20-30 years from now as one of the highlights of being an Argo fan in their formative years...simply walking to the game with you. Enjoy it for what it is and celebrate the fact you're doing it with other Argo fans. I'd LOVE to be able to take part in the fan march for that reason alone.

This board is for die hards, and as people who go to the games I'm going to continually ask for your ideas because collectively this is our team.

When I asked for DMs late last year, I included each and every one of them in a presentation to management and I can guarantee you that some of them will be implemented this season, so thank you SO MUCH for that. All we want to do as an organization is make going to an Argo game the best experience on the Toronto sports calendar.

I sat in with the people from ticketing the other day and was blown away by what they were able to do last year, especially coming in late after the sale to MLSE and not having a full off-season to work their magic. As an outsider to that department my eyes were opened wide by what I saw and just how great these people are at their jobs. Some really good things are happening off the field, in the community, at the grass-roots level, and on the field. I was SO happy to see the player signings this week.

This is a REALLY good time to be an Argo fan, and as an organization we want to make it even better.

I'm truly looking forward to your suggestions, either on this thread or via direct message.

Arrrrrrgoooooos!

BMO offers a number of memorable items each visit. Certainly $5 beers and $7 sausages are a good start, great sight lines and walking distance from GO trains. But to me the most memorable thing is the playing turf and on a warm, humid day the smell of real grass. The quality of that turf is excellent and it changes the game in my opinion. The Argonauts have a number of challenges, but the real turf at BMO is the best surface in the league. Finding a good fix to the one end zone where artificial turf is used should be a priority.

It is. I specifically asked someone about the turf on Friday. I have no idea what the solution is, but I know it's being addressed.

We know we have a great surface, the lowest ticket prices in the league, the best sightlines in the league...we're trying to improve our in-game experience. I'm wide open to (realistic) suggestions.

I mentioned it already in my DM to you but they really have to get rid of that rickety unused grandstand in the North Endzone. That used to be a great common area for gathering and watching the game. Now it's just a giant waste of space.

And you could catch footballs from the game! That was an awesome aspect to that space besides being a cool place to hand out and watch the game, and I remember being there with my two kids and their excitement at the prospect of catching a football. Get rid of the stands, and have that as a feature of the game-- no nets, you can catch a football!

Great sightlines, watching games outdoor while still being sheltered from the weather
Turn the PA system down a bit so that you can still have a conversation without yelling.
Perhaps more post game on field meet and greet autograph events (great for the younger fans).
Minor details for me in the big picture, I really have no major complaint otherwise.
One thing the Ticats do at their in stadium store is offer a customized jersey service on sight, I took advantage of this last season for my son, not sure if the demand is there but at $200 per jersey may be a cool service to offer?

Impossible to say Hoagie. When it comes to Argos football, I'm an easy sell, and can't understand why there aren't more people like me. My ST group has gone from 2 to 4 over the years, and whenever the team has flash sales as it did for the opener and the CNE game, I always buy some more to give to friends.

I have a similar experience. Every single time that I've brought people to an Argonauts game they've enjoyed themselves and said they would attend again, even at the Rogers Centre. I always ask them if it's more fun than a Blue Jays game and 100% have said yes.

As a kid, there was always buzz to go out to SkyDome for a game on the weekend. Just watching the game sold me. Lately, I'm guessing with the bad seasons, there just isn't a buzz anymore (I've also got older) but there is not one thing that I can say is the cause for this buzz. This season just felt like a chore.

What I appreciate the most about the Argos and the CFL apart from the onfield product is the access to the players and the offseason events. Argos recently have been inconsistent with their events. For example, the locker room sales take place some years and not other years. Fan Appreciation Day important some years and held prior to the season, other years during the season. The Argos have a number of players residing all season in the Toronto area and it isn’t inconceivable to put together a monthly event. ie., “watch the Super Bowl with the Argos”. Perhaps more community types of events and rely on partners in areas such Durham, Markham & Peel to put on events. Tie them to charities.

Parent/children fan combinations are very powerful. Putting together a hardcore fan with the next generation fan at games and offseason events have to be a priority. In recent years we’ve been fortunate to meet and get to know other hardcore father/son, father/daughter, mother/son & mother/daughter fan combinations across the country and on social media. In Toronto many of these combinations seem to be the 70s fans and their children, while in other markets the combination they seem younger.

Toronto once had maybe the strongest social media team, but a constant turnover in that department has resulted in inconsistent social media - important to the younger demographic.

I personally would love to see a quiet quarter where the music would be turned off. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd. The music and the lack of a kids area (which I mentioned to you before Hoagie) are the weakpoints of the in-game experience. The stadium needs a kids area with a sightline to the game for Dad.

Run the quiet quarter as an experiement and then do a poll to see what fans think of it. But I love watching old broadcasts of games where all you hear is the PA announcer.

All good points. I remember as a teenager the Argos would have a monthly luncheon at Shopsy's honouring their player of the month. That was cool. Before moving from 33 Yonge to the Sheraton Centre, there were tons of pictures on the wall at Shopsy's from these events. Not sure if the pictures are at the new location, as I have not been there.

I love the CNE game. Winning the game and enjoying The Ex afterwards was a highlight for me last season.

I miss the Joe Badali's post game atmosphere. I went to Williams Landing and while I saw Hogan and former cheerleader Jess, I didn't see a single player. I used to meet everyone at Badali's, even opposing players. Local looked like a better Argos hangout that night.

Liked meeting Alumni at the Shipyard, but why stop there? Have current players stop by. If they are inactive or injured, they can stay longer. If the game is at 4pm, can't James Wilder for example, be there from 12pm-2pm?

Love it whenever fighter jets fly by and when it ponders neighbors with no clue. We have a great stadium for that.

I like the music between plays. Never understood that complaint. I want noise and atmosphere. I like the level and selection. LOVE "For Whom the Bell Tolls" at kickoff. I like it when the Argos take the field to "Welcome to the Party!" too.

Agree, that North endzone looks rank. A similar setup to what Hamilton has would be awesome there with a real BBQ and patio. Not like TFC is going to need that stand this year.

Great thread!
A few random thoughts on a better all around experience.
1. MLSE should now have locker room sales at the end of every season with players on hand to sign purchased items. I think every other team does this! If I was a kid I would love this!
2. Better merchandise to purchase, especially at the games. Again, thinking about kids experiences.
3. Flex game packages.
4. Have to agree with the amount and volume of music and advertising. It's hard to have individuals or stadium cheers etc. when you have to sit and listen all the time.
When a TD is scored get some cheers going (Aaaargooos) or whatever to get some atmosphere going. Let the crowd celebrate before having to "listen' again.
5. Allow replays good or bad. I hate it when there is a controversial call and we don't get to see it. This happens all the time!
6. Get rid of the North end zone. Used to come extra early just to stand there and watch warmups.
7. I understand why but the walk from the shipyard is way too early. Sometimes I'm just getting there as they're starting to walk out.
8. Communication between MLSE and season ticket holders is atrocious. I won't get into it here but they need to treat their fan base with some respect.

Lots of good things to say as well. Beer prices and concessions are great and love the Argos entrance at game time.

In three days in Myrtle Beach have been asked twice about our Argos merchandise. An American who can’t get US shipping and an Argos Season Ticket holder. The STH sits in 105 and his young son loves the tunnel. He already has two pairs of game worn gloves!

Better and more diverse merchandise would help a lot in the crowded T.O. market. I think it’s a HUGE lost opportunity not having the Locker Sales and I must say I get frustrated seeing the other teams still hosting theirs on their social media platforms. The Ticats seem to have figured merchandising business by starting from scratch, while the Argos struggle with the backing of the business juggernaut known as MLSE??

Don’t treat it as a profit centre yet. Invest in the brand and then hopefully profits will follow.

To help grow the game, my suggestion to quiet the haterz is for someone to tell TSN directors to not show anyone over 30 in crowd reaction shots. I'm seeing young people there and they keep showing close ups of old folks.

We didn't?

Some of the fan suggestions I collected here last year included adding off-season events, so we gave you the Town Hall and the Draft Party - both of which were extremely well received...You wanted gifts for each season ticket, not each account, check... You wanted an Argos app, done...The Shipyard was too far from the stadium. Corrected...Theme nights? Okay, we'll try that...Alumni autograph sessions? Check...Please keep the $5 beer. Okay...We want cheaper concession options. We offer a $3 hot dog...I wish you'd fix the end zone turf. Done...The north grandstand (which isn't going anywhere, though it was discussed) looks bad when it's empty. We covered up the two empty outer sections to make it more homey and add more Argo logos and double blue to the stadium...You should have cheaper tickets. We have the lowest prices in the CFL.

That's just from my list here.

I get it, you were upset with the result yesterday and needed a place to vent, but I do take exception when you say that we didn't listen to our fans, that's just not true. The above list is just from suggestions submitted to me here on Argofans.com. There may have been other suggestions that have been corrected, but I don't know because I don't get a chance to experience all of the in-game stuff. There are other things that will be unveiled as we go along.

It also doesn't include improvements based on fan suggestions away from this board. For the record, not all of the suggestions here weren't in the works to begin with, like the turf and our new app , which I hope everyone here has downloaded...it's free.

When I asked for suggestions last year I was sincere, and I promise you I gave a list of ALL the suggestions to people way above me on the company depth chart. This is an ongoing process to make the experience of going to an Argo game the best live event in the city and many people are working their butts off to make sure that's the case. I'm open to suggestions and concerns at any time. Please don't hesitate to send me a direct message here.

I'd love to know if there's an organization that listens to its fans more that we do. If you can name one, then please let me know who that is and I will contact them directly to find out how/what they're doing.

I can tell you that by checking social media, fans from other CFL markets are really jealous of our season-ticket package/gifts, and were blown away by the amount of things we had going on at the opener.

Cheers, and I hope to see you at the B.C. game.

It's bad enough that the trolls target the league to kill it but when supposed fans do it, it just makes you want to pack it in. If people would just realize how much harder that makes it to attract and keep new fans they might just stop posting every negative they feel they have to bitch about.

Our fans need to have the same merch options that the rest of the MLSE properties do. At the very least, they should at least offer the same asother teams in the league do.

Why is MLSE being so stingy with merch? Realsports hardly offers any selection. It COMPLETELY neglects women. My wife's no huge football fan, but shes nice enough to accompany me to the games. She likes having her glass of wine, and taking lots of selfies to post on social media. She wants to look cute while supporting the team! There should be hats, jerseys, t shirts, and tanks in women's cuts available for purchase online. MLSE doesnt have the means to keep a few boxes of the stuff available for sale online?

Women, especially young women, ought to feel included on game day. Cramming themselves into small-sized men's clothing doesnt cut the mustard. Make available something that will make them want to post selfies with their friends in the stands, spread some awareness through social media, and draw some of these fans (and the fellas who enjoy their company!) back to the team and the stadium.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. Not venting sharing our honest opinions.

I was only referring to the in stadium game day experience. I didn't see or experience anything different from last season.

And the Shipyard was a disaster! 2 Beer Stands with Hundreds of people stuck in each line. Same thing for the Hot Dog Stand. Also we could only find 1 Garbage Can in the entire Shipyard.

Those stupid empty, rickity stands in the North Endzone also made the Shipyard extra cramped and extra crowded!

We'll be back for the BC Game and are bringing friends, again. However we will Not be going to the Shipyard again as it was a terrible experience.

Other than the score, I had a great time at the game. I agree the new Shipyard needs work. We ended up going back inside and ordering more expensive beer, rather than wait. It kind of gets lost in all of the usual fan traffic also. I thought maybe I had misinterpreted where the Shipyard was. Until I noticed the small temporary sign advertising cheap beer. Other than that it looked pretty much the same ass last year in the north area.

The north end zone tailgate hit capacity and they were turning people away. I saw some really upset season ticket holders. I saw this because my friend had self inflicted electronic ticket issues so I was hanging out on the permitted. I don’t think it is good to turn people away....at least it was too small this Saturday.

On another note I brought 9 people most were new to the Argos and the CFL and they loved even though the game was a stinker. BTW my ticket rep was outstanding helping with my friends ticket issue. I was impressed. My rep is Hyden Dilling.

I too was disappointed with the Shipyard. I like the idea, but it was too cramped. I had an off-season suggestion of getting rid of the North Endzone seats, creating a patio like Hamilton has. I thought that’s what I would find. If those stands were gone, the Shipyard would be very welcoming with all the extra room as you over look out at the field. TFC does not need those seats, they should be eliminated.

I posted this earlier in the game thread. I have reposted it here, as this is the appropriate thread for it...

A few observations: to echo some others here...the endzone turf looked great and seemed to play fine, from what I could see. That is a HUGE improvement, both from a player safety and an aesthetic perspective. Those ugly, portable north stands (that TFC uses) seem to have become a permanent feature, so covering the end sections with blue tarps with Argo logos (and ads), while filling most of the center section with the band, looked way better. Also, the new PA announcer was pretty good (although I preferred it when he just used a neutral voice and didn't try to 'rev us up' by over enunciating/shouting). I arrived about 15 minutes before the game, through gate 1, but didn't really notice any difference with the Shipyard being there...it looked the same as last year there. Did I miss something (entirely possible)? The set up for selling merch seemed better, and there was more product than I recall from last year. The Camebridge blue numbers are just not visible enough on the Oxford jerseys, they don't pop, and from the upper west side it was hard to tell who was who, so lets go back to the previous design (my favourite all-time, so I am biased).

Neely2005

In regards to the new announcer, a suggestion would be for him to also announce the yards gained on each play.

I can tell you that by checking social media, fans from other CFL markets are really jealous of our season-ticket package/gifts, and were blown away by the amount of things we had going on at the opener.

Cheers, and I hope to see you at the B.C. game.

You almost sound defensive Hogan. Don't be. I get it that you worked hard, along with other people to make things happen. You can't please everyone. There will always be someone who wants the most, but only at a low price. Keep up the great work. I live in Ottawa so I don't get to many games, but sounds like you guys are putting effort into it. Keep it up, and thanks for your efforts.

In regards to the new announcer, a suggestion would be for him to also announce the yards gained on each play.

Hey Neely,

Believe me, I would like that too. But with the up-tempo offense the Argos are running (and to a degree the Ti-Cats as well), it's very challenging. In a no-huddle offense, we have very little time to get out the information that we'd like to. Please keep in mind that we're restricted from calling anything once an offense breaks their huddle. Our first priorities are ball carrier and tackler. That said, we'll certainly try our best.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Ticats' no-huddle on Saturday was run incredibly quickly -- screwed up some Argo substitutions and left some defenders flat-footed at the snap. This got overlooked in other aspects of the blowout, but was a very impressive display of high-level offence.

To help grow the game, my suggestion to quiet the haterz is for someone to tell TSN directors to not show anyone over 30 in crowd reaction shots. I'm seeing young people there and they keep showing close ups of old folks.Just watched Montreal vs Hamilton. I think somebody was listening :)

I noticed that, as well. Lots of good looking, young people all the Als game last night. And TSN made a point of showing us as many as possible...

I mentioned it already in my DM to you but they really have to get rid of that rickety unused grandstand in the North Endzone. That used to be a great common area for gathering and watching the game. Now it's just a giant waste of space.

More good news, it sounds like those North End Zone Stands will be removed next season.

Where did you hear that?

The North endzone is my favourite alternative view
