So Dave Naylor says the league has proposed to the PA that players take a 20% pay cut to start the season on time. Pay cut will apply while games are played with no fans.

To me, it's a ridiculous ask by Ambrosie and the BOG. If the league was to play 1/3 of the season in an empty stadium, savings based on the SMS, would be about 350k per team. So if it were for a full season, we're talking between 1 and 1,1M. If they are that desperate to save such a small amount per team, maybe they should force their GM's to stop carrying more bodies than needed and putting players on bogus IR's throughout the season. A practice which is way more costly than taking 20% of the players salaries.

Yeah, I think this is an easy no by the players.

Could be a moot point anyway because the feds and provinces may not give the green light to start play in June even with no fans.

Bang-on AV ! (as usual ;o) )

Roster sizes grew larger (plus IR abuse) for no real need other than to try to cover-up for $hitty coaching and lack of respect for Canadian players who are back-ups or depth.

The CFLPA is all about more jobs (as most unions are) and wouldn't go for reductions now, but IMO a 41 man game roster is more than enough (this 46 down to 42 at game day is a joke/nonsense) SM$ spread to fewer players means more money per player on average; and put a salary cap of some sort on - one marquee player per team (going to be the QB almost always) - at 350K or whatever, instead of top QBs now making way more than other players.

So many financial ideas that could help the CFL (revenue sharing, way better marketing; getting in on more sports betting $$$), but this has been a clueless gang (BOGs and a clown act Commish like Ambrosie) for a long-time; and now they are thinking of $ucking-up to a minor league American group and selling out Canadian football ??? - desperate for a shiny new bauble saviour maybe ???
