CFL and Argo Attendance Up

Here are the CFL attendance figures so far for the 2022 season. The good news is that the league average and attendance in most cities is up since 2021, with the exceptions of Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatchewan. Compared to pre-Covid 2019, it is still down everywhere everywhere except Winnipeg , which almost certainly has a lot to do with winning consecutive Grey Cups at the end of 2019 and 2021, and BC which is somewhat inflated by having a big name band at the opening game in 2022.

The next few home games for the Argos should lift the attendance after that pop up sale.

I am a bit skeptical of some of the numbers claimed by Calgary and Edmonton this season. I hope they really sold that number of tickets and people just didn't show up for whatever reason, but the stands have looked sparse, especially at Commonwealth.

Good to see Calgary and Rider attendance climbing compared to previous season averages of 21,939 and 25,903. No doubt playing Winnipeg helped out. Labour Day and afterwards should also help attendance in most cities unless teams fall totally out of the playoff picture.

Labour Day and afterwards should also help attendance in most cities unless teams fall totally out of the playoff picture.Because of Covid and modern mindsets I don't know if things will ever get back to "normal" but those numbers were encouraging. I don't think the early start of the season helps but may pay dividends at the end of the season. Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto are all, incredibly, trending up. Unfortunately, all the good work in Vancouver may be derailed by the loss of their two Canadian QBs. Hopefully O'Connor's injury won't be long term.

Here the team average attendance numbers with the Argos up from 2021's 8,603.3 (https://stats.cfldb.ca/league/cfl/attendance/2021/) to 11,875.7, a gain of +3,272.4. Of course the fading of Covid as an issue obviously affected the numbers. Perhaps surprisingly, the Bombers have surpassed the Riders in average attendance. On second thought, maybe not considering the seasons both have had.
