We won, and we deserved to win. Excellent!

- Wonderful work reducing penalties. We were aggressive but took only 5 penalties in the whole game. Excellent work by the whole team, but particular appreciation should be shown to the coaches: messages were sent and received.
- Our O and D were both unpredictable. Boyd got his 100 yards, but we resisted the temptation to run to kill the clock *regardless* of what was actually working. Excellent!
- Inman's job is even safer than it was after last week. He's our #1 or #2 receiver.
- Durie will be a divisional all-star this year.

IMHO.

It is taking some time to get used to the fact that we actually have a good QB now. I can't complain about a 75% completion percentage and 400+ passing yards. One of the interceptions wasn't totally his fault and I don't remember if the other one was, I'll have to "watch the film" as they like to say. He is finding chemistry with Durie, Owens and Inman although I'd like to see Jason Barnes step it up a bit, but the catch to that is I can't complain about that catch he made where he got hit hard by the Calgary safety.

Defense did a good job containing Cornish, but I felt that the secondary was a tad inconsistent, but still overall they only gave up 236 passing yards. Tate was injured true, but Glenn is no slouch either.

The special teams coverage need work!

Also a few other random thoughts:

- KR Chandler Williams (I think) big return to set up the game winner.
- Calgary scored too quickly.

Ray looked great. The game shouldn't have been that close. Our special teams aren't as good when you look at that Pre missed fieldgoal return. Inman looked good except tat play when the ball went right through his mitts for a pick.

Get a brand new QB, Coaching staff, receivers and O-line...put them up againet a team thats pretty much been developing together forever and then see if they win. Right on.
I never thought about a blow out, but they did a great job to pull this win out. Exciting game as well.

The special teams problems should not be terribly surprising given how many very good veteran special teamers are no longer with the team. These new and young guys have to learn how to play special teams in this league which may take some time. Prefontaine went 6 for 8 in FG attempts today and I don't think that anyone will complain about the long one that he missed earlier in the game but the 36 yarder in the fourth quarter which Taylor returned for a TD hurt. Hopefully, Prefontaine will feel more comfortable with Jarious Jackson as the season progresses and he can be a high percentage kicker again, especially from within the 40. I suspect that all of that will get ironed out.

The offence and defence both played superbly today IMO. Obviously, it would be nice to see the offence turn some of these FG attempts into TDs but they scored 39 points today and that hasn't happened often over the last seven years. It really is incredible to have a QB like Ricky Ray who, like Doug Flutie, makes everyone around him better. Thanks, Eric Tillman! BTW, the all-Canadian offensive line was great today against a tough Calgary front seven.

As for the defence, I love the way that they play. I will always be grateful to Rich Stubler for the successful "bend but don't break" defence which he brought to the Argos for many years but I have always preferred a more aggressive defence like Don Matthews ran and this is one fun defence to watch. You have to like the youth, aggressiveness and energy that this defence brings and, like the offence, they will only get better as we progress through the season which should be a scary thought for opposition fans.

I don't blame Prefontaine for missing the 50-yarder, but the 36-yarder made me think about argonaut11xx's comments from last week. That is a kick that Prefontaine simply needs to make and fortunately he made up for it with the game winner. He'll be someone to watch over the next couple of weeks.
