At least according to this article (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Ottawa/2011/12/25/19167536.html).
Also yet another article (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Ottawa/2011/12/25/19167546.html?cid=rsssportsslam!%20sports) about how the team won't be named Rough Riders, but Jeff Hunt has not ruled out Riders, Red Riders, or Black Riders.

Unbelievable that the 'catch' by Tony Gabriel in 1976 would be the Rough Riders' last hurrah. Just unbelievable. Intersting to see what the new name will be. Renegades turned out to be like the Montreal Concordes. Just a blip in the history of the cfl.

The Riders' last winning season was in 1979 and they last hosted a playoff game in 1983. The Rough Riders' final season was 1996. The Renegades did not have any more success from '02-'05 but Ottawa maintained a pretty good fan base during all of those down years IMO. With new, local, committed ownership, things should be much better in Ottawa fairly quickly.

How do you feel about the Friends of Lansdowne?

“I like to say, you’re friends of Lansdowne, but which Lansdowne are you friends with? The one that exists today? Or the one that we’re proposing? Or is there another version that we don’t know about? Because I don’t hear the alternative.”

I like this quote.

I had really hoped that the Roughriders would swallow their pride (so to speak) and let Ottawa use the name.

Glad to hear that things are still on track in Ottawa. This solid ownership group will make Ottawa's return to the CFL a successful one no matter what they end up being named.

I was in Ottawa during Xmas and this article was front page news on the Boxing Day edition of the Ottawa Sun. I'm not sure why it was front page news since we've known for over a year that the new team in Ottawa would not be using the Rough Riders name. I went by Lansdowne Park and the south side stands have been completely torn down. The lower level of the south stands were torn down at leat 2 years ago but they just finished tearing down the rest. Hopefully they'll start building the new stands in the spring.

Hope it'll be ready. the argos will want to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their grey cup win there in 2014. possibly with another grey cup. ;)

good
I'm of the camp that thinks having two rough riders in the league is 'rinky dink'

that said Rough riders is a horrible name anyways, it can't be that hard to think of a better name than that
