This recent article (http://www.ottawasun.com/2012/07/26/merivale-graduate-ready-to-take-shot-at-nfl) in the Ottawa Sun talks about Holmes and his experience in the Vikings camp. It provides some background and also touches on something we've discussed before: that many/most players aim for the NFL. Another recent article about Zach Collaros (http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20120720/SPT0101/307200054/Collaros-hopes-northern-route-leads-NFL?odyssey=nav|head) makes the same point.
<Shrug> I think it's a fact of life rather than a problem.

When the minimum in one league is $390K and it's $44K in the other, it's not too hard to figure out. Not a problem, like you said, just reality. Holmes is likely getting $25K or more just to show up to training camp.
I don't think Holmes will make the Vikings, but it will be interesting to see if he makes their practice roster.

If they dollar figures were reversed it would be every kids dream to play in the CFL.

According to this report, at best he'll make the practice squad:

Edmonton fans will be interested in another one of those players - Austin Pasztor.
I don't think you can say that it is a fact of life and dismiss it as not being a problem. Clearly it is both.
It is going to put a premium on Canadian talent throughout the league. I think that you might see some teams lock up their NI talent, and/or overpay NI players. I didn't like what Barker did with free agency and the draft in terms of addressing the NI talent. However, he gets bonus marks for signing Spencer and Boulay.

You can choose to regard it as a problem if you want, but every team is faced with the same challenge when acquiring new players or their rights. Personally I think the fact that personnel decisions aren't just about talent and salary adds an interesting wrinkle to the CFL.

The Argos have also had competition with Kijiji when trying to sign draft picks....
