So I just read that some band called SixXxer will be at the pregame thing and Karl Wolf doing halftime. NEVER heard of either so I did a quick youtube search. Firstly it's GREAT that the Argos are making an attempt to create a buzz and more of an atmosphere at games. Nice that both acts will appeal to different musical tastes.
I listen to one SixXxer (strange name) song that had a good punk rock and roll edge to it and one that was lame but all in all I was surprised and didn't mind them. Karl Wolf wasn't my type of music at all but I get what they're trying to create in a game day experience. GREAT job Argonauts and keep it up for the long haul.

Go Argos Go!!!

Close. It was cRAP. A deafening silence greeted the end of his singing. They also had a young girl trying to sing like Janis Joplin who was not too successful. I just tuned them out to talk with my neighbour.

I was at the pre-game party and I thought that SixXxer was pretty good. It sounds like this will be a part of a Grey Cup contest sponsored by Sirius XM. I think that bands will be playing at pre-game parties throughout the league. Karl Wolf did a lousy job with the national athem. He also sang at halftime and I didn't think much of him.

Maybe he's just trying to be another Roger Doucette? Remember him? He changed the words while he was the Anthem singer of the Montreal Canadians. "We stand on guard for rights and liberty". I don't believe that is in the official anthem either.

It's an OK anthem, but there's room for experimentation I think. Why not rap the two lines starting With glowing hearts? Why not add a line mentioning Justin Bieber? Keep it fresh!

because Canadian Justin Bieber is too busy asking for free gas and praising American athletes on NBC.

Yeah they can keep Bieber, I bet he considers himself American first anyway, kid is spoiled rotten.

As far as Karl Wolf, he is ok, but don't like his live stuff though.

I think it'll be The Bare Naked Ladies because they popped up in some ad somewhere. TO guys that I really don't listen to much but we have a few cd's will bring on long road trips. I can't have my rockabilly, punk, rock and roll stuff going all the time.

Not the crowd at Grey Cup for Bieber but it wouldn't surprise me. Most Grey Cup haltimes BLOW!!!

Now if we disagree on football, that's one thing....but please, I beg you to never ever compare the great Roger Doucet, the famous Montreal Forum anthem singer to the wannabe that was at the Argo game on Monday. Did you hear all the name-dropping he did while talking about himself in the first half.... By the way your incorrect spelling of Roger Doucet's last name was a coincidence as their was a Canadian guitarist named Jerry Doucette, who put out music under his surname, Doucette. If you listen to classic rock music, you may have heard the song..."Mama, Let him play," as in let him play some rock'n'roll.

I also heard that awful rendition of the anthem from Wolf, with the incorrect lyrics...at least KC Parks from that Las Vegas Posse game in '94 came by it honestly as he probably never knew or noticed the Canadian anthem before he was asked to sing it.:ohno:

Don't forget that Roger Doucet also regularly sang the anthem at Alouettes games in the 1970s including before the CFL game with the largest ever attendance in 1977 (Argos vs. Als): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD4zVnhnaPY

Sorry to be late to the party here - just one quick comment - Bieber is from my home town. It has provided me the only relief in moving to BC.

I didn't find the band that was playing the street party to be anything exciting. I didn't even bother staying in my seat at halftime to watch Karl Wolf.

Chris - it is sad but true. Bieber and I both grew up in Stratford, but clearly in different times. At least being out here allows me to escape that fact!!

Good luck Falcons........errrrrr......Mustangs on Saturday night. I will see if I can find the live stream.

I've never had any interest in seeing anyone lip sync one or two songs at half-time, on TV or in person, even on the rare occasion it might be someone I've heard of.
I did go to see a free April Wine concert once before an Argo game when there was more open space on the east side of the stadium. I had to look up when it was -- apparently 1999.
http://home.ican.net/~argos/gameday/gameday.dhtml

There was a very large crowd, I think a large percentage of the people who were going to the game and maybe some more who weren't.

The only other thing like that associated with a sports event that I can recall was a few years ago when I happened to be downtown for something else on the same night as the Leafs were playing their home-opener, and I was listening to radio on earphones as I was walking towards Union station, I heard that there was a free 54-40 show about to start outside the Air Canada Centre as the hockey game had just ended. Not bad for free, but unfortunately only a couple of hundred people could be bothered to stay and watch, so maybe it's better to have these things before the game, not after when everyone just wants to get home.

Nob, you still live in the Festival City, or am I the only Argo fan living here????

I wish that I were back in the Festival City. To be, or not to be? That is the question. out here in BC the answer is "not to be". I would love to get back, and hoping that one day I will. My wife's parents are still in St. Marys, and I know that she definitely wants to get back.

I'm like Nob and longing to move back to Ontario. Hopefully next year for us. I however don't want to be back in Mississauga although I have nothing against it. I enjoy rural life now just not where we are now. BC is whacked.

I saw a documentary recently on Bieber. The kid's ok in my books even though I don't dig that kind of music. Never heard of Karl Wolf and I don't dig that music either. I'm more for Barber Shop Quartets or the Three Lads lol. But hey I won't be around for ever and if the Argos think they can lure the younger generation with this stuff disguised as music so be it.
The best halftime entertainment is still the dogs chasing frisbees IMO.

I think Bieber is a good down to earth Canadian kid.I as well have seen interviews and although I hate the music he personally isn't bad. Now Celine Dion can leave Canada for good.

Harlan Pepper played the pre-game party last night in Hamilton. I went to the game but didn't see the band. They're listed as an alt-country/rock band. This was also part of the SeriusXM Rock the Grey Cup contest. I think that different bands play at all the CFL pre-game parties and 1 band from each CFL team gets to play at the Grey Cup Festival.

Just gave a listen to Harlan Pepper and they're young guys that'll be doing the folk fest thing that's for sure. Not sure they'd pump up a CFL crowd but better than cRAP to me.
