The Argos are overdue for both a Grey Cup appearance and victory this season. Since 1982, the longest stretch that the Argos have gone without a Grey Cup appearance is seven seasons - 2005-11 - followed by a six-season stretch from 1998-2003. The longest that they have gone without a Grey Cup victory since 1983 is seven seasons (2005-11 and 1984-90). The last time that the Argos won the Grey Cup was in 2004 when there was an NHL lockout. It looks like there may be an NHL lockout again this fall which would allow the Argos to be on the front pages of the papers again as they were back in '04, especially with both the Jays and FC headed for non-playoff seasons and the Raptors likely headed for more mediocrity. Is this the Argos' year? Mathematically at least, it is shaping up that way. :)

P=0.125, but Ravi's excellent punctuation gives us an edge. They won't see that coming...

What I like too is that when we're in it, we win it. 4 and 0 in in the last 20 years is pretty impressive. Montreal has lost 5 Grey Cups in the last 12 years alone.

Ravi I don't remember the Argonauts being front page news in 2004. I know they had a bit of a bump that year with the C & S arrival, but still it's not as if they were the talk of the town. Front page for the EF and the GC yes, but I don't recall a lot of raised awareness about the team.

I think it might be different this time with the lockout plus the GC being in Toronto. Media people in Toronto who completely ignore the Argonauts -- and there are hundreds of them -- will not be able to ignore them if they are in the Cup. And they won't really be able to trash the CFL like they might want to, because nobody wants to be seen crapping on somebody's party in town. It will be very interesting to see what happens this year once we get there.
