    U Sports East-West Bowl

Goes tomorrow; sad this event gets so little respect or coverage.

Some prospects for next year's CFL draft on display.

I missed it, seeing as it took place in the middle of the night for me.

Anyone stand out for those who watched?

Here is the 3rd down nation write up.

I'm personally interested in watching U of T running back Luka Stoikos in the OUA this year. He had one good run during the game. He is also a shot putter and 60m runner. He ran a 7.02 60m in February. Tre Ford's best is 6.80. He is 5-11 230lbs.

    Thank you.

I had read the 3DN story but not the Huskies one.

Always interesting to see how the CFL qb interns put it together on field.

I'll keep my eye on Stoikos too. Impressive numbers.

The announcers also said that Western DB Jackson Findlay was a stud, and he posted a very fast 40 time in the combine testing, but they didn't reveal the number.

I watched a bunch of the game, after it was over, via Waterloo YouTube; the announcers were too busy babbling with guests about U Sports football in general and did not keep up with game commentary, so often who was making plays was not told.

They used to post the East-West Combine result #s but last year, i could not find them anywhere, but 3 Down reporters made vague references to them. Findlay supposedly ran a real fast 40 time (and had 2 picks this game i believe - saw one real nice one) - be nice to see those #s but maybe it's a secret now ?

Some impressive QB play - Tachinski (Bisons) in particular along with Laval's Desjardins. Good QB crop in U Sports lately IMO, but sad they are unlikely to get any real CFL shot; they can always go to the CFL "intern" program to make somebody in the GOB club feel good.

Receiver R. Vavra (Huskies - wonder if he is any relation to that Canadian QB Greg who played for the Dinos and then the Stamps ?) - made a few nice grabs including a TD catch.

Carabins DE J. Ojo drew some rave reviews.

Again - sad this event draws so little notice from Canadian football fans up here. Another CFL fan forum that has umpteen times the members and traffic of this forum made zero reference to this Canadian football event.

Findlay ran 4.42 in 2021. I wonder if he's faster now?

If that set of testing #s are accurate - for a young guy coming out of HS ball (?) - they are superb; along with big DB size; and U Sports all-star recognition. Findlay should likely be a top 10 prospect for next year's CFL draft.

Findlay ran a 4.31 40 at the East West combine! He might get NFL looks.

The At the 55 guys review the game and the week.

That would be almost incredible and break the all-time CFL Combine mark; that's if it was electronic timing, cause hand-helds are known to sometimes record faster times.

Als M-A Dequoy ran a sub 4.4 forty at his Pro Day and that got him an NFL look (mini-camp ?) from the Packers; but just pure speed #s are not going to convince NFL scouts that some "raw" inferior trained U Sports DB is a real prospect.

My prediction is that you will hear of NFL scouts visiting Western this fall.

After I listened thru most of that Spotify bit (the announcers were painful to endure), they did get to Findlay's 40 and said there was a 4.33 & a 4.31 "lazer" timed - so I guess that means the same as the standard electronic 40 time systems used at the NFL or CFL Combines ?

That 4.31 would have made him the 3rd fastest player at the entire NFL Combine this past spring !

NFL "scouts" do visit U Sports football programs at times - a whole bunch of them apparently to look at those 2 UBC O-linemen - Manu (NFL drafted) & Benedet (NFL UDFA with a decent signing bonus) - last year.

Findlay and his 4.31 could well rate lots of NFL visits to Western; I just would not get too excited or hopes up for a U Sports DB (i.e. not a huge O-lineman) getting serious NFL interest.

Tevaughn Campbell is a U Sports trained CB who got to the NFL largely because his exceptional athletic ability. The NFL loves exceptional athletes. You can argue that Manu got largely drafted because of his exceptional UBC pro day performance.

Yeah - Campbell is a good example - blazing speed.

Manu got signed mostly by size I'd bet; doubt the NFL super experts look much at U Sports "tape" (or CFL game film for that matter), but maybe Manu impressed on film or at other Pro Day tests.
