I'm far from an expert on special-teams play, but I think McKenzie might have been the primary culprit on a couple of Edmonton's long punt returns. He's young and will no doubt improve, and with Argos likely having two or three "meaningless" games down the stretch, perhaps he will get some playing time on defence as an investment in the future.

FWIW I thought Pickett was invisible the first few games of the season, and now he's our best defensive player (although Holley, Lemon and Bolden have also been excellent). Darkangelo hasn't been as noticeable as I'd like (or as McManis was in the past) but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't meeting or exceeding the coaches' expectations.

Despite hiring a rookie head coach, other significant personnel changes, a very disadvantageous schedule, a quarterback returning from a serious injury and other factors, the Argos exceeded our expectations and are a competitive team again.

Normally this team needs at least a few years of being lost in the woods before they can get it together again.

What a time to be alive.
This is a good perspective. I was extremely doubtful the team would be able to overcome the horrific schedule it was handed, and figured third place was the very best we could hope for. There is an element of good fortune here, in that Hamilton lost its QB and immediately became pretty easy to beat, and no one foresaw Ottawa turning into a dumpster fire. But the fact is that with just five weeks left, the Argos are a legitimate Grey Cup contender despite some major challenges with the running game and general inconsistency.
The consistency in the Argos season has been their strength at home....4-0. Too bad they will only have 6 of those plus 1 playoff game. They get BC next at home, another real test and Montreal likely resting everyone at the end unless that game is for first place which is still slight possibility.
If Toronto can payback Dru Brown Friday night, Montreal will be looking over their shoulder with some tough games on their schedule.

I watch this annually on Canada Day to stir my patriotic soul, while drinking my lifetime supply of Cheetah energy drink. I think they are starting to spoil though because they now cause a minor to major laxative effect. It's either Franks singing, or Franks Cheetah thats creating the gastric distress.

I think D'Angelo was in good with Argos' owners Cynamon and Sokolowski back then. He even floated the idea of owning the Ottawa CFL franchise at one point, even though he didn't have much of his own money. I believe he was backed financially by Barry Sherman, who was later murdered with his wife (still unsolved).

Chad Kelly's TD pass to Dymere Miller failed to make CFL.ca top 5 plays of the week. I think it was POY.

Utterly ridiculous. It was POTY to this point. Their bias towards him, led buy Kristina is really making it hard to take them seriously

Sadly I cannot put my finger on the press release that Frank actually issued to apologize for that performance, but you can still read some of the reviews - here's Dave Feschuk in the Star.

https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-co ... 72415.html

In an apparent attempt to either alienate fans or ignite, say, a headline-grabbing riot to put those teenagers from Chile to shame, the Argonauts handed a microphone to Frank D’Angelo last night.

D’Angelo is Canada’s foremost promoter of self, the star of his company’s TV commercials. And maybe it seemed harmless enough when the enthusiastic amateur crooner, whose discount beer is one of the team’s sponsors, “entertained” the crowd at Rogers Centre in the moments before last night’s game against the Alouettes.

Alas, he was allowed to mangle a halftime medley that managed to simultaneously offend those of us with fond memories of the Motown era, The Monkees and silence. What was worse, backed by a decent band that was too be pitied, he rasped his way through a staggeringly atonal run at “O Canada.” Mercifully, a CFL game can be the scene of the massacre of just one country’s national anthem.
