Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 1:45 pm I hope he is able to remain an Argo. He is the best punter in the league and tilts the field in Argos favour. Surprised other teams don't want that advantage. With his band John Haggarty and the Beaver Brown Band based in Toronto his dual income here gives the Argos an edge.
Funny I actually heard that band on the radio today! But as a comic in all seriousness, I find it odd Haggarty didn't receive several NFL tryouts after the year he had, yet Julien got a contract and the Hamilton P got NFL attention too. I fully expect Haggarty to return to the Argo fold for 2025 and beyond.

Julien set the all-time , pro football (i.e. CFL & NFL) single season punting average mark last season; you find it odd that he would get an NFL look ?
Too bad the 20 yards extra he got on each of his 15 singles won't help in the NFL.
Having said that, his raw talent can not be questioned. If he gets the right coaching down south, he may have a great career down there.

LOL - that's like saying too bad Chad Kelly's passing stats are inflated cause he has a strong, accurate deep arm to complete a few long bombs.

And "right coaching" for a punter as this stage of his career is next to meaningless. Julien has basically the strongest punting leg in the history of the game (plus is good at hang-time); if the NFL super-experts conclude he is not "good enough", then hey, far be it for anybody to question that wisdom.

And Haggarty, and bunch of other CFL punters and place-kickers could easily play down there IMO; if the NFL super-experts are ignorant of their talents, then that's good for the CFL IMO.

You really have no clue. You have to take every comment about Canadian players to another level.

Which Canadian player are u talking about? Julien? I didn't mention his passport. You all bent out of shape cause he set an all-time pro football league record and got an NFL signing, but your homer guy Haggarty didn't ? Tell us all about how NFL super-expert coaching is going to make Julien and even better punter than his all-time single season average record., which can likely be dismissed as meh cause he wasn't an Argo and is a Canadian.

Joe Krol won 5 GCs as an Argo = way better QB than Doug Flutie. ;)

Paul, I had no idea of who Ab Box was so I did a bit of research. I haven't been able to find out much but here is a link to his background for those who don't know:

Here's more detail on Ab Box including his time with the Argos and on his kicking 13 singles in one game.

In an era where kickers were king, Ab Box ruled.

The Hall of Famer was remembered at a memorial service Thursday as one of the finest kickers in Canadian football. Box died Sunday at the age of 91.

Box, whose full name was Albert George Box, spent two years with the junior Malvern Grads in 1928-29 and once kicked 13 single points in a game.
He joining Balmy Beach in 1930-31, helping the team win the Grey Cup that year with an 11-6 victory over Regina.

Lew Hayman and the Toronto Argonauts then acquired Box and he helped them to the Grey Cup in 1993 before returning to Balmy Beach from 1935 to 1938. The Argo team includes such notables as Ted Reeve and Ross Trimble.

In 1934 he won the Jeff Russell Memorial Trophy as the most outstanding player in the Eastern Division.

Box was a halfback and kicker in an era where the single point was a key weapon in a team's arsenal -- the forward pass wasn't introduced until 1932. Box could boom a punt for 60 yards. He could run a bit as well and was rated one of the top halfbacks of the era alongside the likes of Huck Welch and Bummer Stirling.

He was inducted as a player in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum in 1965 and in the Canada's Sports hall of Fame in 1975.

Box also starred in senior baseball and fastball in Toronto.

He worked as a sportswriter for the Toronto Telegram in the early '30s before moving to Minden, Ont., to operate a lodge in the summers.
