Why don’t you critique someone’s taste in Canadian music now? Or did the Rider fans already tear you a new one for that?OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 2:35 pmSure; maybe, point still is, the Stamps are giving some young Canadian talent playing time opportunity and it has helped, it seems, anyways. That this point is lost on the usual little clique of this site's cognoscenti as they cheer/ guffaw each other on, is hardly surprising. Ojo with ZERO playing time on the Argo D to see what he can do; same for Varga and Blackburn rarely used; zero Canadians even available to get a shot at tailback to help the Argos wimpy situation there (the Stumps give their rookie later round RB draft pick a shot and he has been excellent); the Stamps went out and drafted a big, short yardage QB specialist, plus use him as a TE / H-back, while the Argos still seem lost at times for short yardage converting.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 12:48 pmThe Stampeders had completely depleted their NAT depth, so they had a gigantic need to replenish through the draft. To their credit, they appear to have done so. My bigger concern is that after five years of exceptionally good drafting, the Argos appear to have come out with very little from what appears to be a pretty strong 2025 draft class. We'll see if (and hope) Ojo develops into a useable d-lineman, and maybe Shand will get here eventually. But otherwise we have nothing to show from 2025, and it coincides with losing some NATs like Smith, Metchie and MacKellar.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 12:02 am Zero contributions from this year's Argo draft class so far.
Meanwhile, the team with the best record in the league thus far have a bunch of this years draft class players making huge contributions: Alford as a big play receiver; Fortin starting on the O-Line; Vaughn as a productive short yardage QB and also plays some H-back; back-up RB Choquette has made some real nice runs and is also back on KO return duty; former U Sports D player of the year - LB Faranicco - has played STs and had some D playing time. Funny how that works when a team gives some young Canadian talent some playing time opportunity.
Must all be on that genius all of a sudden, Davey cry-baby Dickenson though; and their success has nothing to do with getting a veteran, deep passing threat & mobile QB in VA, or the new coaches on staff who might have shined some light for cry-baby / last place, last season.

Dickenson choose Maier - an average at best game manager with next to no mobility - to be his starter the past couple of seasons.
This year, he got gifted Adams, and it might be that is just the type of QB Dicky-boy needs to have a good offence; still, I have been impressed and shocked by the diversity the Stamps offence is showing this season, and Adams has so much receiver talent to throw to -( and with vet star Beggelton and former deep threat Malik Henry out but both could be back = easily the most talented / deepest corps in the league IMO), But Dickenson has trotted out dumb, predictable offences in big play-off games recently (abandons a run game, same simple safe passes over & over) - so we shall see as this season evolves with VA at the helm. For now, the Stamps are very, very impressive - on O and defence as well, so it's not all just about VA.

Calgary were the beneficiaries of BC going over the cap. Doesn't seem right but they took advantage of the situation.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 12:48 pmThe Stampeders had completely depleted their NAT depth, so they had a gigantic need to replenish through the draft. True, yes, but I'm way more concerned with the Argos appearing to have lost their touch when it comes to scouting incoming NATs. How other teams handle the draft is secondary, to me at least.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 6:39 pmCalgary were the beneficiaries of BC going over the cap. Disagree. Argos played well, much better than I thought they were going to. Before the game, I thought that they were going to get smoked... and they didn't . I am not at all happy with how the game ended, but overall was happy with how hard they played. And they are not out of anything, at this point.
Re: Game Thread: Argos @ Montreal Thursday July 17 - 7:30 PM
If the O-line is one of the Argos biggest weaknesses, then rushing to get a certain #12 back into the lineup is foolhardy at best, and negligent at worst. He suffered a catastrophic injury in the East Final, which was what, just 8 months ago. What would it take for him to get re-injured? And what would that do? We'd be in the exact same position as we are now, but maybe without our franchise QB forever. As you mention above, the Als are now potentially without their starter Alexander. How is that going to work out? Will wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 12:54 pmFor the season to potentially turn around, they need a certain # 12 back, and his status gets murkier and murkier by the week.RichK wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 11:42 am A tough loss for sure, but plenty of promising signs and the season is still young.
As predicted both McManus and McMahon brought a huge boost in their return to the lineup with new energy on both sides of the ball. But both players got re-injured in the second half and it kind of took the wind out of the balloon. Still, it needs to be recognized the Argos played their best ball of the season in the first half.
The O-line looked better without The Scooter Man than they did with him which is pretty strange and interesting. We saw world-class football plays from McFadden, Slywka, Mital, Coxie and others. There is plenty of good to build on.
I’m not worried. Looks like Alexander will be out for weeks again and the Als will be lucky to win a game with MBT at QB. Someone noted rightly that the Bombers started 1-5 last year and ended up pretty good. It would be a big mistake to write this team off so early.
Argos played really successful and smart football for the first half of this game, and then let it get away from them. But you could say the same for the Als, except the halves were reversed. It was a very entertaining and tough fought game. We just ended up on the short end.

Take what you want out of the game but moral victories don’t mean much at this point.RB957 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 11:38 amDisagree. Argos played well, much better than I thought they were going to. Argos need to string together some wins and fast.

If you are going to lose a game, then a "moral victory" as you call it, is better than a blow out, is it not? As a coach, you need something positive out of a loss to help inspire and motivate the team to not quit.ARGO57 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 12:13 pmTake what you want out of the game but moral victories don’t mean much at this point.RB957 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 11:38 amDisagree. To your second point, stringing together some wins and fast is not realistic, especially this season when the competition between teams overall is much tougher. No game against any opponent is going to be easy. Look at Calgary... their only loss has been to Ottawa.
What we need is to keep competing. Try to limit mistakes and unforced errors that cost us points and ultimately games.
Re: Game Thread: Argos @ Montreal Thursday July 17 - 7:30 PM
Sorry but a loss is a loss, if stringing wins together fast is “not realistic” then they won’t make the playoffs.RB957 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 12:40 pmIf you are going to lose a game, then a "moral victory" as you call it, is better than a blow out, is it not? I would argue that leading the majority of the game then collapsing at the end and losing is more frustrating than a blowout.
