2025-26 Off-Season Transactions

Post by ArgoRavi »

Argos have signed National receiver Tristan Ready out of Carleton: https://3downnation.com/2025/12/18/toro ... tan-ready/

He is coming off a stellar 2025 season with the Ravens.

Decent size receiver with some very good college ball production; ran a weak 40 time at the CFL Combine and went undrafted; but might turn out to be a good possession receiver and maybe a tough blocker. Glad to see the new Argos regime sign some Canadian talent that is out there and available - bring on real, tough TC competition.

The Argos have re-signed linebacker/special teams demon Jack Cassar and DB Benjie Franklin. They also signed a new player - American offensive lineman Rush Reimer.

There is a report from Coty Wiles of TSN on Twitter that the Argos have signed their 4th round draft pick from 2025, OL Gavin Coakes out of UBC, through 2028. I believe this would be Coakes' first training camp with the Argos.

That is correct Ravi. Coakes was recovering from a foot injury when he was drafted and didn't attend TC but was able to play for UBC last fall. It is believed he would have been drafted much higher had he been healthy. He was one of 3 players drafted in 2025 IIRC that were recovering from injuries and unable to attend TC. I expect LB Jalen Rayam to be at TC this season too.....

DB DeEmetrius Masuka from Guelph would be the third player.

IF all 3 of Coakes, Rayam and Masuka show-up at Argo TC, it would be a chance to make more of last year's Argo draft class - which did not do much (Ojo sat on the bench all year = WTF? = i hope there is some new D coaching blood); while a number of other CFL teams got some very good contributions from their draft class.

The above 3 might be in very tough to make the Argos though - unless there are a bunch of defections or retirements - not sure who they would have a chance of displacing at their specific positions on the roster ? Hopefully Coakes has some of the talent of his former UBC O-lineman rubbed off on him (Benedet & Manu in the NFL; Hosseini drafted 3rd round by Hamilton last year) - who were U Sports all-stars.

I think Assibo-Dadzie, who was Argo drafted and returned to U Sports ball last season (and named all-Canadian at corner) might have a much better shot at making the Argos - again, IF there is some new D coaching blood who have open minds.

I expect that Paris Shand will be signed before training camp, too, OV. Jim Barker has mused about making defensive end a "National" position if they can get Shand and Luigi Vilain signed to go along with Ojo.

Love to see both Vilain & Shand signed for TC; the former is more of a pass-rush DE (like Ojo) whereas Shand is maybe more a tweener DT/DE for the CFL game - bigger body type, maybe not quick enough to play DE regularly in the CFL.

The Als went all Canadians at DE late last season including the GC - A-Berglund, Uguak (another tweener type who can also play reps at DT) and ex-BC Lion Josh Archibald. Calling it a "National position" is just GOB "ratio problem" / 7 only need apply bafflegab though. You could play one, 2, 3 or no Canadians at DE or DT in your D-line rotation, and playing a Canadian there doesn't mean you need to knee-jerk drop a Canadian starter at another position to get to 7 only.

A productive day for the Argonauts signing Darkangelo, Herslow and Ungerer III.
