I believe he was a teammate of Wally Buono's.

According to Statscrew, Huard and Pasquale "Wally" Buono were in fact teammates for 10 games spaning the 72 & 73 seasons. I should note that when visiting the Nova Scotia Sports HOF in the mid 2000's, I recall seeing Coach Huard being prominently displayed with his successful teams that played in the Atlantic Conference.

I don't even know how much, if any of this is accurate, but I remember reading that he would wear something like a garbage bag or something similar during games, and that he made the players eat popsicles after the game. Don't know if anything of that is true, but for those who were more aware, I would be intrigued to hear some of those stories about how or why things went so far off the rails. Not to disparage him now that he has passed, but it's these types of stories about characters like him that make the CFL so interesting.

After his coaching career, if I am not mistaken, he had some success on the business side with a company that made astro turf.
The turnaround in the team's performance during the 2000 season after he was fired speaks volumes. Unfortunately, it was just too late.

It all started with Huard trashing the 1999 team at his press conference and being defensive with the press. What a bad hire.

I do too. He specifically trashed the 1999 defence which was the strength of the team.

Huard was also the last CFL head coach to use true tight ends (Jimmy Haley and Richard Clarke) although that was a disaster.

Yeah, it wasn't the defense's fault that Jim Barker tried to go at it with Jimmy Kemp and Jay Barker at QB. Imagine if that team actually had a capable QB?

With O'Shea in the back of the room when he did it.

That was the season they traded O'Shea to Hamilton, wasn't it?

Yes, I forgot that O'Shea spent 2000 in Hamilton.
