Hamilton got raided pretty extensively yesterday and are desperate to make a splash in free agency to appease their flea bitten fan base.
I’ve stated before I would love to see McManis return but it would have to be at a reasonable price, Aaron Casey and or Darkangelo are more than capable of stepping in to fill that roll quite nicely.

Worth noting that Paris Shand's stay with the UFL's Columbus Aviators lasted a very short time as he has been released from his contract. I wonder if Jim Barker had a chat and talked some sense into Shand. We shall see if he soon signs with Toronto. If so, the Argos would be well-positioned to have Jeremiah Ojo, Shand, and Jonathan Kongbo rotate at defensive end and Luigi Vilain might still come aboard, too.
Kongbo has plenty of CFL experience now and actually led the weak EE D in sacks last season in very part-time work; Ojo was an all-star pass rush DE in college ball with an outstanding set of athletic testing #s = those 2 alone should easily be able to hold down a DE spot in a rotation (Parrish got full-time reps at DE last year and was average); Vilain was a pass rush force in his last season of Div I ball and has been around several NFL rosters including dressing; Shand is more the unknown, especially at DE (seemed more of a tweener DT/DE in college ball) and couldn't stick at all on an NFL roster. The first 3 guys there on the roster and I would have full confidence they could hold down one if not both of the DE spots. Shand showing up too would be interesting and he (like Kongbo) might be able to play reps at both DE & DT.

I think any combination of these Canadian DE’s are an upgrade over Parrish TBH, would really be nice if the Argos could actually sign them.

The Argos have re-signed special teams demons Canadian Brian Harelimana and Global Thiadric Hansen, who also provides depth on the d-line. They have also signed two new Americans - DBs Peyton Buckley and Caleb Nelson.

Hamilton have the cash now to get McManis. Those flea bitten varmints will certainly overpay for him now.

They probably will, at least the Argos have the talent on the roster to replace McManis.
In previous years this would have concerned me much more than it does now.

Upgrading over Parrish is a bare-minimum requirement. That said, it's asking a lot of a guy who has barely played DE in the CFL and a guy who has been little more than a journeyman for several seasons. Fan optimism is both expected and encouraged, but I'm taking a wait-and-see on this, and won't be surprised if DE is not one of the Canadian starter positions in the lineup.

They have some DTs that can apply serious pressure that can allow the young DEs to develop and get into sync with overall DLine philosophy. But, these guys need to sign and come to training camp. Not sure going UFL is a better route to NFL especially when you were just in the NFL. I understand American players thinking that way, but there is no excuse for Canadians to be thinking that. Right Taylor Elgersma?

UFL makes NFL possible in 2026. CFL delays it by a year.

True, important point. For players that have just spent one year trying to make the NFL already and going UFL we'll see if that moves their NFL needle in 2026. If it doesn't they don't show up here until after Labour Day. CFL season is already 2/3 done by then. In Elgersma case he is losing the opportunity to learn from a HOF QB and Coach in Winnipeg.
