Because there are hardly any journalists in Toronto covering the Argos at all? This whole story from start to finish would have been exhaustively researched and massively reported if it had been someone on the leafs or jays.IssuesMcgee wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 5:17 pm

Re: Kelly
Ambrosie is garbage as a league commissioner. Kelly was a meat-headed fool to have done or said anything that would get him within a mile of a situation like this.
Randy decided to go full point-and-shriek on Kelly and bring down the hammer on Kelly to both make a statement about workplace and gendered harassment (fair) and to also separate the league itself from this entire mess (prudent). I can't fault him for it.
So the punishment was a public tar-and-feathering where Kelly can never have his day in court (it may not be equitable, but this is the price he'll pay forever for having been so risibly careless and immature) and a massive suspension which serves as a huge monetary penalty in lost wages and bonuses (and so we all learned that hurt feelings rate higher than violent crime, betting violations or drug offences these days... what a time to be alive).
Where this manages to skew a bit screwy is when it became an open ended suspension (even if Kelly finishes the required courses, disciplines etc) that only ends when Lord Randy of Ambrosie says that it does. Here's where Randy is appointing himself arbiter of right, wrong, fairness and the judge of what may be in Kelly's heart and conscience. So what does he do? As we live in a time when Optics Matter over all, he gets the idea to strike a public pose of the stern, hanging judge and wag his finger at Kelly loudly proclaiming that "You may only re-enter My League if you sign a document that states that you will never be given another chance if you ever do anything that I don't like... or that the media tells me not to like. Never mind that this isn't permitted under our current bargaining agreement... Never mind that I basically have the power to ban you anyway... Never mind that you've fulfilled every part of your suspension... Sign this document and you may scuffle yourself away from me staring at your Nikes and muttering an earnest thanks for my magnanimity."
Did Kelly go to counselling and complete required courses? We are informed that he has.
Would those courses have lead him to a place of owning his part in this mess and doing better and being better going forward? We presume so. So Angelo's "trap" scenario is likely moot in this instance as the reports to the league from his courses and counselling would've already told Randy that Kelly has expressed remorse and taken ownership.
So me? I'm drawing a line under the matter. I am very over it.
I hope we get lustily booed in every stadium we roll into and that we're the heels who march to the championship match at 'Mania and have the entire world rooting against us.
Chad Kelly is about to get rocked everywhere he goes. Players, Coaches, Schemes, Media, Fans. Everyone is going to feel morally justified doing or saying any damn thing they want about him.
I hope he's up for it. I hope he sticks it up their ass on November 17 in BC.

All the "journalists" are still at the buffet at the press conference from last week's look over here announcement making Matthews captain of the Leafs. They almost have the Stanley Cup parade route finished.shayman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:58 amBecause there are hardly any journalists in Toronto covering the Argos at all? I suspect what Chad Kelly will face in the CFL will pale in comparison to what he faced as QB at Ole Miss. Pretty sure the SEC doesn't candy coat.bluto wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 9:52 am Ambrosie is garbage as a league commissioner. And by the way, the abuse CK gets in Hamilton has always been brutal. We've sat behind and witnessed the abuse.
I wouldn't worry about that aspect.

Re: Kelly
Damien Cox wrote a column in Monday's edition of the Toronto Star about Kelly. Not sure if this will work, but the link is here:
https://www.thestar.com/sports/argos/ar ... a5223.html
While Cox has often disparaged the CFL, the article brings out a lot about Kelly's past behaviour that provides more context regarding the rationale for this "last chance agreement". I can understand why the league, through the Commissioner, would go this way, as Kelly has previously not been able to stay out of trouble. And I can also see why Kelly, who wants to play more than anything else, would agree to it, especially if it was the only way that he could rejoin the team.
I hope he can handle things well when he addresses the media today, and then just try focusing on football and keeping his mouth shut and eyes and hands to himself.

Re: Kelly
Predictable Damien Cox. Doesn't follow the Argos much less the CFL but you can count on him crawling out of his hole and penning an article when he gets the chance to add negativity. Does anyone think Cox will attend Kelly's media conference today?RB957 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 11:19 am Damien Cox wrote a column in Monday's edition of the Toronto Star about Kelly. Re: Kelly
Cox's article might offend some Argo fans, but tough $hite; he can write that piece, and those who did not know much about the situation will see that spin/context. Maybe a big Argo homer fan could author an article making the Chadster out to be an innocent angel who has been rail-roaded by all the snowflake boogeymen they fear out there.RB957 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 11:19 am Damien Cox wrote a column in Monday's edition of the Toronto Star about Kelly. I hope Chad becomes a model citizen in the community and plays great football again for the Argos.

Well, an article about the Argos in the Toronto Star generated nearly 100 comments. So I guess there's that.
This is the strongest advertising they have had in decades.

Re: Kelly
Since 2018, Kelly’s had no reported behaviour problems till this lawsuit, and through all the years up to his signing with the Argos there is no record of him having any transgressions related to females. Some “predator."
“No last chance for the victim. Just for the star quarterback.” The victim had a “last chance.” She could have gone to court but chose instead to accept some NDA deal. So we will never have any of the allegations tested in a court of law, and the “facts” remain untested. People like Cox draw their own conclusions related to her claims based on their own assumptions and biases, and their own financial interests.
The last I looked the Argos are a business not a charity.
