[quote=paulwoods13 post_id=3122 time=1732122187 user_After McManus the highest priorities IMO would be Smith and Metchie, two locked-in Nat starters on D.
Smith in particular, IMO, as he is a unique talent and there is no one on the roster at the moment who could likely replace him. Hergott has potential but it's too soon to know what he will become. I saw enough from Blackburn this year to believe he might be able to develop into a starting safety. That said, I really hope we keep Metchie.
Hergott got next to no real playing time on D to see what he could bring; maybe they are bringing him along slowly playing just STs, or maybe that is just not a good sign. Blackburn did get some real D playing time and flashed some talent - might be the future safety.
Agreed that Robbie Smith and Metchie are very good D fixtures and hopefully they stick around - with back-ups behind them who could fill in or play some reps in rotations and packages.
Next CFL draft features, IMO, a lot of D talent, particularly at D-line and safety. Dionte Knight was let go and so was last year's draft pick Justin Sambu (picked up by the Stamps and responded with 4 sacks in limited playing time - likely led the entire league in sacks per D reps played) - so there was no Canadian DT talent at all to possibly play in the rotation; this is a mistake and should be corrected IMO. Both D-line and safety (a guy who might also be able to play reps at S-OLB like Adeleke) can be addressed next draft - do it with early picks (and do not GOB draft there another O-line just because).

If the Argos want Knight back, he is a free agent. Jonathan Edouard is another NAT who I thought made progress this year prior to his injury and I am interested in seeing where he goes from here.

IIRC Knight wasn’t released by the Argos this year, he was poached off the PR by the dirty Cats. The problem with drafting so well is that you end up with too many good players to keep.

Exactly. And the Ticats have neither drafted nor recruited well over the past few years.

A couple of Argo draft picks from last draft were named U Sports all-Canadians after this season: Jerrell Cummings (UBC) named 1st team at corner (Canadians rarely get a shot to play corner or D-half in the CFL these days, but maybe the play of Ty Ford this year will have opened some GOB eyes a bit); Ifenna Onyeka (Carleton) named 2nd team at DE. Both were taken by the Argos in the 5th round 2024.

We'll be better able to speculate when we see the list of prospective free agents, but I'm already worried about three guys: Polk, Mital and Holley. All are signed for next year, but I think all three will get NFL nibbles, at least.

The Argos have really done an excellent job recruiting on the defensive line since 2021: Oakman, Brinkman, Hendrix, Holley, and Williams among others.

I'll need to get myself a whiteboard for this... Sort of an Off-Season Depth Chart
I struggle every off season with the "who do we still have", "who are our free agents", "who is available from around the league", "who do we have from prior drafts who may finally land"...
Anyone who can track these in Depth Chart format here, thanks in advance!

Polk and Darkangelo getting looked at by Denver.

One we have yet to hear about, but I'm still expecting, is Mital.
