I was talking about hosting league games; not TC. KIngston has a fairly, new and modern stadium. And either town might result in some new Argo / CFL fans being born with the exposure; as opposed to Guelph where it's been there / done that (including the Ticats). And the Argos could organize a comfortable VIA train trip / package to either town - both bigger tourist draws IMO - promote it as a big thing (as opposed to see if u can make your way to Guelph).
But I get it - thinking outside the box or trying smart or innovative ideas to market and promote the Argos/ CFL - not a good idea maybe.
OV Argo, I just can't believe that you would write something like that without intending to back-handedly say that anyone wo disagrees with you must neither be smart nor an outside the box innovative thinker.
Nope sorry - you can interpret my words and thoughts as you wish though.
There's obviously lots of disagreement here about things Argo or the CFL; to each his own opinion. If Will or whoever else here think Guelph is the best and maybe only suitable place to host a couple of Argo games, that's fine; I disagree, but i didn't call him or anyone else a fool or idiot for thinking so (and BTW those type of insults have been directed at me by somebody here for not agreeing with conventional wisdom); and posting some alternative ideas or views should be welcome, no?

I’m always open to creative ideas to grow the game, and I think exploring different cities could be a cool concept. I just wanted to highlight that, from a practical standpoint, travel could be a real barrier for a good chunk of the Argos fanbase, especially season ticket holders depending on which city was chosen. If there’s a way to make something like Kingston or London work and keep it accessible, I’d love to see it explored.

Seriously, York would be better. It's right on the subway line. I have my doubts whether Guelph would attract 10k people, and it would only be diehards that make the trip. I'm sure they can somehow get 5k temporary seats into York. Even UofT would be better than Guelph, although I can't see the people that live in the area allowing for temporary seats to go up. I sure hope if they do play at Guelph, they make sure to schedule for Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

Let's just hope it's two games max (which seems like a reasonable guess, as Will already stated).

It was Ravi who said that was a reasonable guess so I can't take credit.

The Argos, in recent years, have played the 2nd preseason game in Guelph, which usually coincides with the weekend were final cuts take place. The CFL usually wants those games finished by Friday night to give teams time to cutdown. You're right, though, that games in Guelph on Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be better.

I'm with you AV on this one. There seems to be a lot of room to erect temporary grandstands at least on the opposite side of the main grandstand. Furthermore, campus restaurants that are mainly closed down during the summer could be open during game days, something I don't remember U of Guelph having. And yes, TTC accessibility is a big factor.

York is a great idea. There are a lot of Argo fans North of the city and the drive to York would be a breeze compared to the regular pilgrimage to BMO.

The cost of hosting the World Cup games in Toronto is now estimated to be 380 million but looking at past World Cups many now think this will be at least 600 million. The Federal and Provincial govts have committed a total of 200 million with the city on the hook for raising the rest. It was to be 80 million for the city but it could be much more. The Argos will have costs related to moving their games elsewhere including expanding the selected stadium. Can we assume those cost to the Argos will come out of the Toronto budget?
While I'm on a role, wouldn't it be nice to see the federal govt come up with part of the cost of a stadium in Halifax, since they are throwing 100 million for Toronto's World Cup. And---how much will the feds give to Vancouver for their games?
There will be the argument that the event will bring money into the city from visiting fans but believe me the taxes from that will never cover the cost to the city.

I couldn’t agree more on all points, specifically Halifax.
