I would hope Mr.Pelley refrains from a rash decision. MLSE still has to buyout Mr.Tannenbaum in July.
They might be stalling spending money until that transaction is complete. I would name Jim Barker
Interim GM and give Pinball a Brand Ambassador position. They should try to wait until the fall to name
a permanent GM.

Very sensible idea!

They can't and shouldn't name a new GM until next off-season, when they can properly vet candidates. Trying to hire a new GM in the fall could be quite problematic.

You missed the “interim” part of his post which is quite sensible.
This is all predicated on the urgency of Pinball’s reported request.

The concern in this thread is puzzling me. We've concluded that Pinball is not really acting as a GM. His statements in the article imply he's willing to stick around until a suitable replacement is found. So what's the problem? The situation could be much, much worse.

And who cares about tampering really? Sure Murphy is out but my guess is there was more to his departure than just tampering. 3DN is pretending to care so they can continue to churn out articles that knock the Argos.

When the Argos went over the cap a couple seasons ago, 3DN published multiple articles about it concluding heads need to roll and even implied in power rankings that the organization are straight up cheaters. When BC went over the cap, there was one mention about it in an article and that was that. They then watered the issue down by writing about what happens when a team goes over the cap.

It's generous of him to be willing to stick around to keep not doing a job he's not doing. But wouldn't we be better off having someone both qualified and eager to do the job? Unfortunately, finding a viable permanent replacement at this point in the hiring cycle is very unlikely, so we'll continue to operate without a real GM for at least another 10 months, it seems.

It is being implied that Pinball isn't doing the job of GM. I disagree with that thinking. He is doing the job his way and if we look at seasons 2021 to 2024 it appears the job was done extremely well. Pinball is doing the job using his special talents, skills and personal approach. Good leaders know what they bring to the position and they use their unique talents to perform the role in the best manner. An example of his personal approach is his quick connection with Pickett, enabling the team to sign Pickett.
Last year was a bust but the responsibility for that, rests on others' shoulders---enough said.

When leaders perform in ways that some consider unorthodox, it bothers those more use to established approaches but the evaluation of the individual's performance should be on how successful was the role performed. A couple of Grey Cups should say the job was performed very well.

Some will disagree with this thinking and they may be right but I'll stand by the success that this team has achieved since Pinball took the job.

So far, the organization appears to be doing well at rebuilding the team this offseason. If the Argos are back to being competitive this year, who cares?

I care that the organization is well set up for long-term success. I'm not surprised some folks seem rather blase about the current state of affairs, and no doubt some think I'm worrying needlessly. But I've felt for a few years that having a big chunk of the ops cap spent on stuff other than football ops is a bad idea, and the fact Pinball himself seems eager for change has only amplified my concern. (As for this season, I do like many of the moves that have been made so far, but IMO that doesn't necessarily mean the Argos will contend for a Grey Cup. Hopefully they will, but we won't know for at least eight or nine months.)
