These changes are about growing revenues and attracting more fans, as are the rule changes coming this year and next.
8 of 9 teams making post season not ideal, but seeding will remain important for home playoff dates. Regular season record will matter.
I listened to StewJo on Overdrive Tuesday afternoon and the 8 of 9 never came up. They didn't care, seemed excited about what's coming.
If these changes bring more money, better TV deal, more TV coverage, renewed fan support, interest in GTA, rest of Canada, and renewed interest for a 10th team than I am for this. The playoffs just became more difficult and intriguing. No question the 2 best teams will play for the championship in better weather. The core to what makes our game Canadian and unique hasn't changed IMO.
The stagnation of what has happened to the Argos and CFL in Toronto and Canada over the last 40 years has to end.
This is the problem I have with the rule changes that were announced a few months back. There is zero evidence these changes will bring any kind of renewed fan support. I haven't seen or heard a single person declare they want to get into the CFL because of the changes. What I have seen and heard, is many longtime CFL fans unhappy with the changes.
I hope you are right though.

I'm probably an outlier on this one but I like the new playoff rules. Teams out of the playoffs often find reduced fan interest late in the season but knowing their team will still make the playoffs, could encourage fans to attend late season games. The additional revenue is good for the league, teams and players. Who knows it may even make it more attractive for a 10th team to join the league.
Hopefully I'm not the only person who feels this way.

I'm all for the extra play-off games; the old way of a team having to win just one play-off game to play for the league Championship is more bogus than the notion that 8 out of 9 teams making the play-offs is so awful IMO. More play-off games is good for fans, and yeah some more revenue for the teams & league.
Not sure I really like the new format however; they could have just gone East & West still with 1st playing 4th and 2nd playing 3rd in the first round (with the 5th place West team still able to cross-over if they had the better record than the 4th place East team) - so 2 East semis and 2 West semis to start.

Two fewer games that way is likely the biggest reason.
