I'm with OV, for the most part. I'm surprised so many Argo fans seem to feel they will need luck and everything to go right. I'm completely convinced Argos are going to win. I won't write my projected score down so I don't jinx them, but I think the margin is going to be comfortable.

And I'd be with you Paul, IF, Kelly was at the helm for the Argos - a clear win, likely by 10+ points.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 7:28 pm I'm with OV, for the most part. Unfortunately, that IF is not the case.
Still say the Argos can win though.
Re: 111TH GREY CUP THREAD - BOMBERS @ ARGOS
The key thing for me in this game is what happens at the line of scrimmage. Argos need to pressure Collaros so he doesn't have time to sit and wait for receivers to get open, and they also need to be able to stop Brady Olievera who is an excellent, and punishing running back. On the other side, our O-line has to be able to protect Arbuckle, because he is not a threat to run the ball. And we need to establish an effective run game, which has been a hallmark of this team all season. Keeping the Winnipeg offence off the field with long sustained drives is as good as playing good defense. If the Argos win the line of scrimmage battle, it will go a long way to winning the game.
On a side note, I went out today wearing some Argos merch, and not one but two different people called me out and cheered for the team. That has never happened to me before. Gotta love it.

Went to the Raptors game this evening wearing my Argo gear, more than a few people commented that they hope the Argos win.RB957 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:59 am The key thing for me in this game is what happens at the line of scrimmage. Much to my surprise there was a very nice assortment of Argo merchandise available at Scotiabank Arena, never thought I’d purchase Argo gear at a Raptors game!

I understand that Ben Major is the referee for the Grey Cup. I hope one of the punter's hits the scoreboard like happened a couple of times during the regular season. I got a kick out of how he announced it, as he had some fun with it.

Interesting: is this brand new - Argo merchandise at Scotiabank ? I' ve been asking for years now, why the (former) corporate lords of the Argos did not have Argo gear and an Argo booth or wall type thing, set up and prominent (on the concouse) , at all Leafs and Raptors games there. I always thought they wouldn't dare because they did not dare want to insult all the wannabes and NFL fan-boys who might be at those games and who look down on the minor league CFL.

TBH I was pleasantly surprised (borderline shocked) to see the amount and variety of Argonauts merchandise at Scotiabank.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 1:02 pmARGO57 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 1:34 amWent to the Raptors game this evening wearing my Argo gear, more than a few people commented that they hope the Argos win.RB957 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:59 am The key thing for me in this game is what happens at the line of scrimmage. Always infuriating to see Leafs, Raptors and TFC merchandise prominently displayed with the Argos completely ignored.
Hopefully things are starting to change, we’ll see.

A very thoughtful and well-written column by Bruce Arthur in today's Toronto Star-
I think he nails it with his assessment and observation that the fanbase of the league remains much older, despite the league's claims that they have increased viewership in the 18 - 34 demographic. Growing the fanbase among younger people will be critical if the league is to thrive. In my own case, I have converted my son into a CFL-fan for life. He has promised to continue our ST once I am gone, but that is not growth, just maintaining the status quo. Having said that, I did notice a lot more young people at BMO, especially for the East semi-final.
This is where the choice for a new league commissioner is so critical. Forget CFL 2.0 and global expansion, what we need is someone who "gets" younger people, how they consume media, what they like.... and really go after them. The Blue Bombers and Lions in particular are moving in this direction, making their games part of a bigger community and experience, and IMO the whole league has to do this with a full frontal press.

From what I can see, there are 3 changes the Argos are making for the big game, according to the just released depth chart:
DB Blackburn replaces DB Edouard
LB/DB Priester replaces WR Herslow
QB Scott replaces QB Kelly

Re: 111TH GREY CUP THREAD - BOMBERS @ ARGOS
Argos are starting nine NATs (four on the o-line, two receivers, plus Smith, Adeleke and Metchie). The designated INTs are all on defence: three on the d-line and Priester. This means the other two "backup" INTs (Grant and McMahon) can enter the game in place of a NAT at any time. I assume we will see the usual rotation on the d-line, and Priester will replace Darkangelo on some passing downs.
