For sure, short careers and very low pay compared to other professional sports leagues means every dollar counts.ArgoRavi wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:54 pmUltimately, with short careers, it probably is about the money more than anything else, OV. Also, the higher cost of living in the GTA likely factors in.OV Argo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 8:58 pmpaulwoods13 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 7:39 pm
You mean key, core players like Kelly, McManis, Daniels, Brissett, Ungerer, Hunter, Nicastro, Grant? Giffen, Hajrallahu, McMahon, McFadden, Vandal?
Every team in this league loses guys every year. And every team keeps guys (including core guys).
"A town they like and that respects them." Is that that how you would describe Toronto?
Yes - I mean those guys; but also losing piles of good FAs for 2 straight seasons, indicates something else as well IMO, possibly.
And I would not describe GTA wannabe-landers as having a lot of respect for CFL/Argo players; hence a reason they might not mind getting out of town, and nothing to do with money.
You mean give the big bad Argonauts an unfair advantage, oh the horror.
Which adds context to Edmonton's spending spree.ArgoRavi wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 10:43 am With increased revenues, the salary cap is increasing: https://cflpa.com/cflpa-shares-historic ... 025-season
I wonder what the entry level wage will be? Getting players to come north especially with a weak Canadian $$ must be a real headache for CFL GMs.ArgoRavi wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 10:43 am With increased revenues, the salary cap is increasing: https://cflpa.com/cflpa-shares-historic ... 025-season
I have a feeling that the Canadian dollar won’t be allowed by the powers that be to drop too low. Otherwise, it could be used as an “unfair” advantage in trade by Canada, something that Trump et al wouldn’t like.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 11:29 amI wonder what the entry level wage will be? I can't imagine the amount of US talent that won't bother due to those reasons.
This is set out in the CBA. Until 2027, the minimum salary is $70,000 Cdn. In 2027 it goes to $75,000.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 11:29 am

They need to get that number to $100,000. You might see less players prematurely retiring.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 2:37 pmThis is set out in the CBA. Until 2027, the minimum salary is $70,000 Cdn. In 2027 it goes to $75,000.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 11:29 am
