I guess my biggest question at this point is, how much are we missing Vince Magri? And how soon will we know that answer?

It really isn't that we don't respect the job the scouts and others have done but rather we simply don't understand why certain choices were made. Perhaps we will hear some the reasons for those selections in the near future.
I stand corrected on Newell. Looks good on Hervey.
So, maybe Hervey should have dismissed Newell all together for being this juice junkie? Ever read any of the comments on another fan forum about Andrew Harris' history with a supplements issue - totally insulting the guy? - should the Argos never have signed him ?
The Argos decided that an available OJo (provided he doesn't get an NFL contract...at 25 I don't see it), was a better selection than Newell who will be out of football for a year. I really don't see how you compare this scenario with Andrew Harris.

I am neither a pharmacist nor a gym-rat, but I know a little bit about the supplement dark arts.

I read that list of what they caught in his sample and couldn't for the life of me fathom how an athlete would have so many different substances which actually counter each other's effectiveness. If he is dumb enough to just take everything without careful planning and consideration of its efficacy then he deserves the suspension and the liver damage.

Here's what I don't get (well, there are many things I don't get, but this is one) -- we shouldn't have drafted o-linemen because we have plenty in the pipeline, yet Theren Churchill is evidence that we draft badly? So if we'd stayed away from o-linemen after drafting Churchill (and before him Richards) we'd be better off than we are now?

Football teams can always get better.

Point is - the Argos were already loaded with O-line depth (vets and young guys), but, they had lost 2 Nat receivers (Sindani & Nield) and have basically no Canadians at DT. Yet they chose to use mid to late draft picks on more (iffy, long range) O-line prospects and another LB (guy who basically had done nothing in college ball) - needed more Canadian LB "depth" like a hole in the head, AND in doing so turned their nose up at an opportunity to draft either or both of some very accomplished college ball receivers (2 first team all-Canadian receivers) or DTs (Div I starter and an athletic OUA all-star) that were still available. This, I do not get. And as I said above, more futures / O-line depth is available each and every draft; so why not address much more pressing (obvious to me) needs, now ?

I look forward to Hoagies annual article that gives insight to the Argos draft perspective. That'll give clarity.

They did address d-line with the first two picks and one of their two picks in the global draft. They didn't address receiver, but they have replaced the two guys who left with Hergy Mayala, who might be better than both of them. And they have three other NAT receivers capable of starting, so it's not a major area of weakness.

Hoagie’s excellent draft day reports never talk about players the Argos didn’t select, so don’t expect much clarity about Jackson Findlay, for example.

Mike does a great job for sure, and look forward to reading his stuff; but don't expect tough or critical questions - like asking about passing on Findlay; or in what football universe are Brian Scott or Tucker Horn better QB talents than Michael O'Connor or Laval's Desjardins.

The hard questions go over like a lead balloon here, to some. ;) :o :?:

You're both aware that Mike works for the Argos, and has always been up front in his articles on both free agency and the draft that he is limited in what he can report with respect to players that the Argos either do not draft, trade for, or sign. I am personally grateful for both the draft and free agency articles that Mike puts out there because it gives fans a unique perspective behind the scenes that I am unsure is available to other teams and grateful that he is willing to share his thoughts here personally.
