comparison to Jake Meier is a good one.
We have seen the same result too often now. Nick is good enough to make some plays and keep the game within reach, but can never close-out a win. And our D cannot make a stop when we really need one. That was the Stamps in 2024, which led them to last place, and will do the same in 2025 for our Argos.
Another good Argofans comment was this was a matchup of two weak teams, for sure. Elks are very beatable, and yet Argos could not do it.
When the Elks play in BMO that might be Argos only remaining win in 2025, but then again...
Looking forward to seeing young BC QB Rourke in person next week, always love to cheer for the young Cdn. guys, and seeing how big a crowd we get. Hoping for a good Argos performance, otherwise just watch how that big crowd empties-out in the 2nd half. Got more fun things to do, right outside the gates, than to sit thru another loss.

With the CFL playoff system, it's hard to totally give up on the season with eight games still left to play. Maybe they should limit it to minor changes before the bye and see what happens the next two weeks. Long shot though it is, if we somehow beat BC and Hamilton, and then get Kelly, Hunter and other injured players back, we could still make a run.IssuesMcgee wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 11:29 am I'm not putting this loss entirely on Arbuckle because the defense and special teams have been atrocious.
But Arbuckle right now reminds me of Jake Maier as Calgary's starter. We can all keep citing his passing yards until we are blue in the face, but Arbuckle clearly cannot close the deal and gives up the ball at the most crucial times, over and over again.
I get this can happen two, maybe even three times in a span of 10 games, but we are talking about the same crucial point in every single game.
If the rest of the season truly doesn't matter, then why not see what Tucker Horn is capable of?
Arbuckle doesn't have a strong arm and has limited mobility outside the pocket, but he is playing his heart out behind a line that is pass blocking almost every down because we have the worst run blocking line in the league. I can't blame him for our record as much as the o-line, pass rush and special teams.

Any blame towards Arbuckle is misguided.

This season reminds me so much of 2019. The QB play (when MBT was in, not Franklin) was the least of the team's problems. Every other aspect of the team that year was an utter disaster.
Even though we look to be headed to another 4-14 record (or maybe worse), there is no way mgmt will start evaluating guys for next season (i.e. playing rookies like Horn over healthy veterans) until we are officially eliminated from playoff contention. We're probably at least a month from that.

So when it comes to our slim playoff hopes and the out of town east vs. west match-ups going forward. Since we've lost the season series against the Als, and barring a collapse by them, we won't be catching the Ti Cats. We have to cheer for the Eastern teams to prevent the west teams from crossing over so that we can casually go on a winning streak and slide into the 3rd eastern playoff spot!??!?

Western teams won all the games this week. This is sort of like a Leo Cahill "act of god" situation in reverse.

Think ARGO's messaging needs to change... I am OK with this is the best we could do under the circumstances... trying to make it seem like some how its a positive or will have a positive outcome is upsetting.... I think the best we can hope for is that we only loose some fans.... likely the less they talk about the world cup the better.... but Thats just me...gilthethrill wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 10:32 pmBut Pinball seemed enthusiastic about the opportunity to showcase Toronto to the world?ARGOFanIan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:22 pm watching on TSN but listening to 1050. Mike H. talked about the world cup plan in pre game... kind of feel sorry for the people in the ARGO trenches who have to deal with stuff like this..... I don't think the CFL or any one running the ARGOS deserve any criticism. This is more an owner ship issue or the soccer guys sticking it to us... or both... but thats just the way I look at things. hopefully its a good game ... TSN 1050 coverage is good. Mikes comments I will always respect worth a listen if they are out there on the interweb somewhere.... go ARGOS.

Last year, the Argos found ways to win. This year, they are finding ways to lose, often at their own expense. Bad bounces, Murphy's Law, whatever you want to call it.
But we have been spoiled with some great teams and results in the last few years. The Argos have given us so much to cheer for and be proud of. Let's not forget that, and I agree with Rich K that they haven't quit yet. They do keep fighting. That's all we can ask for.
Can you even imagine what it must have been like to be an Edmonton Elk fan and not have a home win for what, 19 games over two seasons or something like that?
And as several others have posted, anything can still happen. It is a long shot, but it's not time yet to turn out the lights.
So to all the doom scrollers out there, knock it off.
