Since I was able to provide you an example of why that is a bad idea, do you have any that prove it's a good idea?
This is beginning to feel like Monty Python's Argument Clinic, but since you asked . . .
I'm struggling to see how the Wilder example is germane. Unlike this case, the team caved in to his contract demands, and he went on to have two lacklustre seasons in which -- for many, many reasons beyond him -- the team went 4-14 back to back.
As for "proving" that releasing Doxtater was a bad idea, obviously judgment either way will be based on how he performs for his new team, and how the Argos' o-line performs without him. It seems self-evident (to me, at least) that letting an asset walk away is tantamount to dropping a $100 bill on the sidewalk. You are no longer able to benefit from the money, and someone else gets a "free" $100. I'm sure there have been examples of promising young players, including NATs, being released early in their careers and then performing well elsewhere. At the risk of dating myself, one was Chris Walby. But again, to me it's self-evident that you don't just outright release a promising (albeit completely unproven) young NAT who is under contract and plays a position where the club demonstrably has needs he could theoretically fill. If you are 100% certain that you have several better players at that position, you can do it, but even then, you damn well better be right.

Getting Montreal to overpay an over-hyped stiff like Doxtater is a net-plus for the Argos IMO.
You would think Doxtator was the second coming of Dan Ferrone with the amount of angst displayed regarding this transaction.
Yeah it reminds me of the of the old Woody Allen joke. Lady: “The food here is terrible”. Friend: “Yes, and such small portions”.

He's definitely not Dan Ferrone, a Day 1 dominant starter. But he might develop into Jude St. John, who was rather nondescript with Hamilton, then blossomed into an all-star with Toronto. We don't know yet, do we?
It's amazing how fans put their faith in guys who are on the team, regardless of performance, and dismiss them when they leave, regardless of potential. There are folks around here who still thought Shane Richards would develop into a player two years after it was clearly established he wouldn't, yet Doxtater -- like Richards a high draft choice -- is deemed a stiff after a cup of coffee in Double Blue.

I know I have stayed away from posting for a while, but some things just bring me back.
If I recall, you also that that Juwan Brescacin would come back to haunt us.
I don't know what it is with you Paul. Ever since the Kelly allegations you have been nothing but negative towards the team. While some of us are perhaps overly optimistic, it sure beats the constant pessimism coming from you these days.

Welcome back, I guess?
Apparently I've posted 810 times since the current iteration of this site went live 22 months ago. I don't know how many of those posts would be considered negative, but I always call it as I see it at the time of writing. I'd be happy to respond to any specific posts you take issue with.

We're just waiting for someone to froth at the mouth and fall over backwards.
Doxtater took his sweet time getting to Toronto and then did jack squat once here not unlike so many players (Canadians among them now unfortunately) who think they belong south of the border. Guess what you dont belong north of the border either. Have some humility, play the game hard, learn, and see where you go from there.
Having said that make him come to camp and do all of the above, and if he doesn't cut him loose. It might actually help him become a better player in the long run.

Doxtater has had a lot of injury issues since university. I wonder if those haven't taken a toll on him.

A refreshing change, Dakoda Shepley approached the Argos expressing his desire to sign a contract with the team.
It paid off nicely for both parties.

Let's hope he plays well & stays with the team long term.
