Speaking of press conferences, Kelly getting dragged through the mud for his body language of not caring or wanting to be there I guess. Yet, Nathan Rourke is terrible with the media. And yet the face of the league.

Who can blame Kelly for that?

To be fair, Rourke did get dragged pretty good for his halftime interview with Farhan Lalji in Victoria at the end of August.

I don't blame him for being upset at press conferences. But I would like to see him take the high road. He is in the process of rehabilitating his career and he does have fans and supporters out there and he can win over new fans with a more engaging approach. He just had a perfect QB rating in the East Semi. That's amazing. It is a story because of how his first playoff start went one year ago to come back and have a game on the opposite end of the spectrum. Especially in the midst of what him missing half a season. With results like that, he is going to be the QB of this team for awhile and both he and the team need to have a relationship with the media to continue to grow their fanbase.

He’s not winning over people that have already made up their minds on him no matter what. These people treat him like he committed a crime, which he did not.

He is getting paid a lot of marketing money by the Argos though and he is speaking to the fans through these press conferences. If he wants to have any chance to rehabilitate his image, I think it's a good idea for him to try to be a little more engaging in these interviews.

I did notice his demeanour when I watched that post-game press conference but didn't want to comment about it because I am sick and tired of talking about all of the off-field stuff surrounding Kelly; I didn't realize until seeing it on here that this had been flagged by others.

I look at it differently. The “marketing” money is a way to allow for more real cap room to sign other players. The league can call it what they want, but it’s simply a version of the old “marquee” player contracts we have seen in the past. It’s not like he’s telling those in the media availability where to go.

I think two things can be true here:

1. That there are some individuals who will never forgive Kelly and we'll keep him under a microscope for time immemorial. That's the reality.

2. You can still note Kelly's demeanor during the press conference and not approve of it. That doesn't make you lump you with the people in category 1. You can take things he does one at a time.

Kelly cannot possibly repair his reputation through engaging with the media. Once the media has marked you, there is nothing you can do.

Nothing Chad Kelly does will be right in their eyes. If he ever slips up they will be out in full force to do everything they can to ruin his career like they did last time. It doesn't matter if it takes them 10 or 15 years, they will never completely give up the effort to destroy his reputation. No one in the media will ever write something positive about Chad Kelly off field ever again.

The only way Kelly can engage with fans and repair his reputation in the eyes of the people is by winning.

This isn't traditional media anymore. Several (most?) of the questioners at media availability are podcasters/bloggers. Candid Frank Stanisci isn't an enemy to Kelly. Also, you speak to the fans through the "media" so just try not to look like you're treating them with disdain. It's not a high bar.
