ARGO57 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:09 am Still a lot of football left to play but this may turn out to be a year that the Argonauts take a step back while developing some newcomers.
As previously noted by many the roster has suffered substantial losses the last couple of years giving younger players like Aaron Casey, Sage Doxtater, Andrew Chatfield, Derek Slywka and the like to get substantial playing time to hopefully develop into productive CFL players.
Often, it takes time for a team to gel and time is likely what the Argos require more than anything.
That is an often overlooked aspect of high roster turnover, team chemistry especially coming off a championship season.
For sure. There was a lot of turnover, especially on defence, coming into the season and then the high number of injuries has only further complicated the ability of the team to build continuity. They had to make 8 lineup changes going into two games so far this season - all necessitated by injury. I said this before Friday's game and I will say it again - we won't really know what this Argos team is and isn't until they get some healthy bodies back in the lineup. It's far too early to be writing this team off for this season.

Yes, time will tell Ravi.

Yep, and hope you are right about this team gelling as the season goes on and some players return healthy.

However, a bunch of CFL teams have already faced lots of injuries this year and don't look as bad as the Argos.

You can't chalk up everything to injuries or off-season losses; they don't explain cutting 2 proven RBs like Carey or Brown; or the deployment of talent on the O-line; or the decisions to select and play guys on D who are not getting it done.

We'll see if they make any changes going forward or if the line-up is the way the coaching staff likes and wants it (not including Kelly & McManis of course). Good thing is, both Ottawa & Hamilton are unlikely to pull away with the final East play-off spots, so a weak Argo start will not be fatal.

Nobody has faced more injuries than the Argos so far this season - honestly, I don't recall seeing a team hit so hard with injuries this early in the season. Cutting the likes of Carey and Brown wouldn't be as much of an issue if McMahon and Williams hadn't gotten injured. As for the o-line, I think that the talent is there but it takes time to gel.

Injuries have been really bad across the CFL this season.

I'd argue Ottawa has had more injury issues than the Argos: several projected starting O-linemen; vet starting safety Addae; last year's 1st round draft pick / starting receiver Mardner; starting QB Brown just missed 3 games; leading receiver Addison out lately; star kick returner Dedmon injured again last game.

None of these as individually devastating as a starting QB in Kelly missing a bunch of games to start the season, but cumulative affect is arguably more.

I’m glad somebody said this. All the sky-is-falling Argo fans need to remember that those three Lawlor TDs were all world-class football skill level plays that would have likely succeeded against any defence. The coverage was excellent on all three plays, and the Argo defenders had their hands within inches of the ball when it arrived. But no D is gonna stop a perfect throw combined with a spectacular athletic catch.

This maybe true Rich but appreciating a Hamilton TD against the Argonauts ain’t happening!

Yeah, the TiCats will always suck large regardless, but my point is that our defence may not be the total disaster some are making it out to be.

I agree. The defence has had 3 decent to good games and 2 poor ones so far. Again, let's see if we can get some healthy bodies back and some continuity going. Only then will we really know where this defence stands.

Tons of injuries on a short short week up against a rested team is tough road. Let's see how the team does coming off of a bye vs Montreal...who is also coming off of a bye...gggrrrr.
