I hope not. He is quite old. I think the negative effect it would have if he bought it and passed away would be the worse thing that can happen. Now you’re looking at someone else buying it, and I would not have any confidence in that.
I’m happy with MLSE owning it and paying the bills.
Do they want to? Argo success has always benefited other media entities, but BELL was a co-owner and took responsibility for the team. Let's hope they value long term how CFL are trying to grow league revenue. A do nothing owner leaves this team with untapped potential when it deserves an Amar Doman owner. Is there somebody like that out there?
My point being a do nothing owner is better than no owner. I am of the belief that Nobody is stepping up to buy the team unless Bell wants back in.
If those are options I'll take the do nothing owner.
Who were last owners who cared? Cynammon and Sokolowski? They were spending Braley's money, so they dont count. Before them? It was Candy/Gretzky/McNall. That was a short-lived tragedy.
Its been so long we dont even know what it looks like anymore. An owner with a long term commitment and vision.
There has to be somebody who grew up an Argo fan who made good out there in the world. There have been 9 Grey Cup championships and 11 appearances in the last 44 years. Alot of folks watching those teams with the same dream John Candy had all those years ago. Like all of us except with money

Whether or not we bellyache about losing 3 home games or not (I personally am over it), I will take a stable group that pays the bills and lets the people they have hired to run the team do their jobs. I have nothing to complain about.

I have a long list of complaints but I agree with you for the most part.
So far this season has seemed like less of a nightmare than when the Argos were displaced from the Rogers Centre in 2015 and a lot of that has to do with the current ownership. Back then there was a lot of BS talk about the team folding, which only added to the stress and the hopelessness of the whole situation. That nonsense talk has all but disappeared today.
MLSE could do way better but unfortunately they are the best the Argos have right now. Unless if someone from the Thomson, Weston or Irving families wakes up one day and decides to buy Argos out of love for the team, I just don't see a more stable option at this current time.

Going back to the '70s, actually.
I was going to say the mid 80's before I read your comment. Despite winning in '83, attendance was down every subsequent season (except one) until the Skydome opened in '89. As for for 70's, I assume you are referring to the late 70's, when the Blue Jays arrived on the scene. To quote Leo Cahill "It'll never be the same."

...and now Rogers have bought the 25% of MLSE that Kilmer Group (Tanenbaum) owned to fully and completely own 100% of Toronto Sports. Kilmer received over $4 Billion for that 25%. Could Larry Tanenbaum be persuaded to buy the Argos away from Rogers?

Yes, an owner who gives a rat's butt about the team is a bummer. However, as Angelo pointed out, there isn't a better option at the moment (maybe there never will be). It would be great to have a Doman type owner who is clearly invested in the team's success, both on and off the field. Regarding your question, I don't think there is somebody who has extremely deep pockets who's greatly passionate about the Argos/CFL to buy the team. I would love to be proven wrong and see the Double Blue potentially thrive again (off the field). It's obviously not the ideal situation, and it really bothers me that the team and the fans have been treated like 3rd class citizens.

I know the decision to take the $$$ & run with the World Cup schedule should be criticized, but after a 5-13 season, the owners let the GM do what he needed to do to correct the problems. A new front office was hired & money was spent wisely during Free Agency. The team has improved as a result of giving Pinball the resources he needs.

The Blue Jays (1977) were obviously a major factor. So was the renovation of Exhibition Stadium (1976). But a major -- and often overlooked -- factor was the sale (1978) from Bill Hodgson to Carling O'Keefe, which didn't see the Argos as anything more than a vehicle to promote beer sales. By 1981 they had installed Ralph Sazio at the helm with a mandate to run the team as he saw fit, and his approach was to spend as little as possible and to laugh at the concept of marketing.

I don’t know. Surely the new TV deal changes the equation A LOT for any potential buyer. The franchise could conceivably break even with current attendance levels. I can see potential buyers coming forward if the team was for sale.

What a disaster bringing in a dyed-in-the-wool Ticat legend to run the Argos. The crazy thing is they did the same thing with the same disastrous results in 1971 with John Barrow. Both times it felt like a nefarious Hamilton plot to sabotage the Argos. Two of the dumbest hires in Argo history.

To be fair, the hiring of Sazio worked very well on the field. He helped break a 31 year-long Grey Cup drought. I still remember how his hiring was THE big news in Toronto - sports or otherwise - in August, 1981.
