Chad Kelly was supposed to get an x-ray to make a final determination with respect to his status to start the season. I don't know if the x-ray has taken place yet, but there are a few possibilities:

(1) The x-ray has happened and it wasn't great news;
(2) Dukes was more banged up than we thought after the hit he took from Howsare;
(3) Maybe they simply wanted another guy with CFL experience in camp (though his results were nothing to write home about)

I’m surprised that the team didn’t bring him in sooner to provide competition. IMO, he is similar in style to Arbuckle and would fit into the offensive scheme nicely. Keep in mind that in the vast majority of his playing time in Edmonton, he was playing in a somewhat dysfunctional offense behind a poor o-line.

I think they were not too impressed with Dukes performance in both the scrimmage and the pre-season game. Probably looking to push him with this signing.

Perhaps Dukes is hurting a little. If this is the case, it makes sense to add a QB with some CFL experience, to the roster. Seems like an insurance type signing.

Kelly is almost certainly out for week 1, and possibly beyond. Going on the six-game certainly has not been dismissed as a possibility. If, as seems likely, Dukes is also rehabbing an injury suffered on Saturday (when he apparently was pulled sooner than planned), then there is a serious need for QB depth at least for the first few wks. Let's hope that's all it is. As promising as Horn might be, needing to rely on him in the event anything happens to Arbuckle would be very scary.

Overall not the greatest scenario at QB if things are as they seem right now.
Kelly going on the six game seems like a distinct possibility, best to be cautious with him IMO.

Shitfire!! I hope Kelly doesn't miss more than a game or two. The Argos no longer have an all star defence and depth to rely on and have key injuries there too - McManis & Cox Jr.
Arbuckle is good and with a good running game they can grind the game, but Kelly is the fuel that makes the Millenium Falcon Argos jump to light speed.
There are no easy games or teams anymore. The parity is like nothing I've seen in my over 50 years of watching the CFL, particularly in the East.

Big announcement this morning as the team parts ways wish Quincy Mauger. They also released DL Lawrence Johnson and signed DL Brevin Allen. Idk about you guys but I have absolutely no idea what they're going to do at the Field Linebacker position now.

My guess is that Rutledge looked better than Mauger. Perhaps even Slywka might be considered for this role.

Maybe they are that confident in Blackburn at safety.
