I agree that the offence has not been the major issue this season, but I don't think it can be ignored as a problem. Being 5th on the list of problems is fine as it is on the list.

When the opposing team turns up the intensity of their play, the Argos have to be able to match that in all phases of the game. They haven't been able to do that, and perhaps that is what Dinwiddie was referring to when he mentioned "pretenders."

Even though there's still half the season to play, I strongly feel that this is a already a lost year. Good teams don't blow big leads the way we did vs. Montreal and Ottawa. We should be at least 4-5. When you combine that with the two public lambastings they've received from RD, I don't see how this team can recover to claim a play-off spot. I wonder what the morale amongst the players is right now? The many good players we've lost through free agency and/or traded away the last two years has finally bitten us in the butt, especially the affect its had on the team's chemistry, as Argo57 pointed out. The running game (if you want to call it that) has just been downright embarrassing. Yes, we've had injuries and as a result no continuity at the position. Going into the Ottawa game, Arbuckle was leading the Double Blue in rushing yards, and he continues to occupy the top spot, at 18th in the league. This is a totally unacceptable situation. When he's your leading rusher, you know you're in trouble.

I noted in a different thread the number of 4 year streaks of winning seasons the Argos have had since 1958, which of course matches the last 4 years. Only once have they been able to make it 5 in a row.

So, what has the team done after 4 winning seasons, and then a loosing one like this year so far? Well, in 1973, they bounced back with a winning season but lost in the divisional semi-finals. They then went on to have something like 8 loosing seasons in a row. In 1988 and 1989 they lost in the divisional semi-finals and then had 3 loosing seasons in a row. In 2008 and 2009 they had 2 loosing seasons after 4 in a row winning seasons.

So it seems that it is not easy to sustain winning seasons as we have seen this year, and then to once again regain a winning seasons streak.

1985 and 1989 were the "down seasons" in the 1980s, post-1981, but they rebounded with three winning seasons, two first place finishes, and a Grey Cup appearance from 1986-88. They had winning seasons in 1990 and 1991, including a Grey Cup win, before going 20-52 over the next four seasons. They did only slightly better from 2008 to 2011.

The team was 22-50 between 2016 and 2019 with, go figure, a Grey Cup win thrown in there.

I was thinking about being able to keep team personnel together after several winning seasons. It seems to me that this would be reflected in what a team's record is like after several winning seasons in a row, and how long it takes to get back to a winning season streak.

Winnipeg for example has had multiple loosing seasons in a row since 1958. They have had two streaks of 5 winning seasons after which they had 1-2 loosing seasons. Currently from 2016 to the present they have had all winning seasons, an 8 year stretch. The longest stretch for the Argos has been 5 winning seasons and they have only done that once.

So historically this year is not an anomaly in Argos history.

Are you basically just frustrated that a team like Winnipeg has had close to 10-years of sustained success, while the Argos seem to be capped at 4-5 years throughout their history?

No, I am resigned to their history of up to 4 winning seasons in a row and then 1 or 2 losing seasons before getting back on the winning track, and just hoping fans do not get too down with the way this season is going. Cheer up, better days must be coming.

Nature of the CFL is up+down due to the player turnover as mgmt./coaching turnover we see consistently.
I think the largest exception to this CFL winning-then-losing history is Calgary.
what was it, 14 straight seasons making the playoffs? That's a record that will likely never be seen again.

Calgary was impressive but Edmonton did 34 years from 1972 to 2005. That will never be topped.
