But all those pass knockdowns — was it a record number? — they are on the QB, not the OLine. Wake Up man!
Rich, you are dead wrong there. Ask any coach, and o-lineman. That is 100%!on the line.
Nothing is 100% in this complicated world. But pocket awareness, arm angle and optimal reads are three things that can help QBs avoid pass knockdowns.
Yep; and shorter QBs with limited mobility are known to suffer from pass knock-downs; Arbuckle is listed at 6-0.
O-Line may make a fine scapegoat du jour for this real $hitty Argo team that has been on display many games this season, but it's far more complex than that. And the coaching staff needs to look hard in the mirror at some real poor decisions on roster choices / starters and in play-calling and strategy.

A fair point Rich but it would also be tough sledding for a bruising back if the O-Line can’t open up any running lanes and continuously gets dominated at the line of scrimmage.
Chop Williams, a bruising back, has been the most productive one but when will he return to the lineup?
Not sure when Williams will be ready to return.
I suspect O-Line will be a top priority for next years CFL draft.
CFL "thinkers" almost never draft for immediate help (though there are tons of examples of it working when the chance is given); and the Argos have focused on the O-line via the draft with league best type results for a number of years now.
This O-line issue is IMO mostly about injuries (freakish/sad CFL year for injury problems) and lack of continuity. When healthy and playing together (maybe not till next year?), an Argo O-line of Hunter, Nicastro, Vandal, Giffen, Doxtater, Dankwah, Bosse = all draft picks - could be league best IMO. What is up with the Giffen injury anyhow and what about Hunter's timeline for return ?

Another winnable gone to waste. So many miscommunications on the Oline. The Dejon Allen trade, which I believe was pushed by the owners due to salary, might just rank up there with the Brad Elberg for Dave Mudge deal. I've lost count of how many ST return TDs have been allowed, so uncharacteristic of Donnovan's units. The D was great last night. Aaron Casey looks to be a player. Arbuckle had 1 bad throw in the 4th when perhaps he should have led Ungerer and Coxie is the best R in the league, not Lawler. Goal line offence continues to haunt this team it seems. I noticed Mayala alot in the place of Mital, but no word from TSN if he was hurt.
With Ottawa beating Calgary Thursday, next week's game looks to be a real " Slobber Knocker".
To be fair, Allen has barely played for the Lions this season.
They have given up at least 3 kickoff TDs and 1 punt return TD so far this season.
Agreed on Coxie and Casey.
They should have gambled on 3rd and goal in the 3rd quarter. That FG wasn't good enough, especially with Winnipeg getting it right back moments later. Even if they had failed, Streveler likely would have struggled at his own 1 or 2 yard line and may have thrown another pick down there.
Dinwiddie said post-game that Mital suffered an injury which is why Mayala played.

Regardless if Allen is hurt or not, is he not worth a lot more than a backup LB who isn't very good on STs?

Yes, he is. It was a horrendously bad decision to salary-dump the best OT in the league. He might be hurt with B.C., but that doesn't mean he'd be hurt if he were still here. Just a complete head-shaker of a deal, especially when combined with bringing in no experienced left tackles. It boggles the mind how the Argos went from the best o-line in the league for two full seasons to probably the worst.

Varga has certainly been a disappointment so far this season. He hasn't been noticeable on special teams at all.

He was noticeable when he whiffed on the KO return TD. Agree with Paul. A brutal trade.

Makes a fine scapegoat though; Varga had 73 D tackles in less than full playing time on the BC D last season but hasn't played a lick on a lacking Argo D this season; he has 9 ST tackles for the Argos so far this season and had 13 as a rookie with BC.
What happened to that Adebobye guy who was a very good ST tackler for the Argos? - is that the same guy who is top 10 in the league in rushing so far this season with the best RB yds/ carry average in the league by far?

It was a gamble that didn’t pay off, but to me it was understandable. He is the highest-paid O-lineman in the league and the Argos had serious cap problems. They knew Doxtater was coming as a possible starter at tackle, and they had all that other depth. Or so they thought. They also didn’t know Hunter would lose weight in the offseason and lose some effectiveness. Oops.
