Without meaning to get into a protracted debate on whether the coaches have a sufficient read on Doege, it must be noted that he has been in the league for three years. Admittedly, he hasn't played a lot in those three years but I'd argue that the coaches should have a far better idea of what he can and can't do, compared to Horn and Duggan. Duggan was runner up in the Heisman voting and led his team to the NCAA National Championship game ( where they lost). Though his upside is huge, others with similar records have failed in the CFL. But, it should be imperative to discover if he and also Horn, have the potential to be a future starters in this league.
As Paul has indicated, it may well be a case of rewarding Doege for his contributions this year. I can understand that logic but IMO it is more important to get a read on Duggan and Horn as soon a possible

Thing is, how do you assess any QB fairly when protection is well...limited at best?

I don’t see anything unfair about it. Don’t we want to see how these guys do under pressure? Show me a QB who’s great at handling a heavy pass rush and I’ll show you a great QB.

As far as I can tell, Arbuckle has had 426 pass attempts so far, and has had 31 sacks. The next highest in sacks is Bo Levi Mitchell with 429 pass attempts and 16 sacks. The next two QBs with over 300 attempts are Rourke with 12 sacks and Harris with 13.

There is no doubt that if you are playing behind the Argos offensive line you better have quick feet and be mobile.

And Arbuckle is easily the slowest-footed QB in the league, outside of MacLeod “Snowshoes” Bethel-Thompson. How many sacks could have been avoided this year if Arbuckle had even average foot speed?

I’d be ok with Doege at QB2 next season. He will be a lot cheaper than Arby but capable of playing just as well imo And I love Duggan at QB3. After all these years we may finally have our short yardage guy, one with big potential and promise. I’m excited for next year already.
