Argos sign Kevin Brown

He was on the Elks' practice roster at the end of the year and thus was a free agent.

A 1,000-yard rusher in 2023, he suffered some injury problems in 2024 and was ultimately replaced by Justin Rankin.

Does this spell the end of Ka'Deem Carey in double blue?

Argos have signed Kevin Brown, who finished last season on Edm's practice roster. Heading into last season, I thought he was one of the top 50 players in the CFL. He began the year as Edm's starting RB, but fell behind the other two guys as the season unfolded. IMO this is a super-smart pickup, especially if either McMahon or Carey looks elsewhere.

McMahon is not listed as a free agent.

Brown is a fantastic RB talent IMO; tough enough to run between the tackles, but with explosive break-away threat ability.

Hard to believe the EE would expose him by having him end the season on the PR (could they not have put him on an IR list instead); i get that they like Rankin & Leake who were excellent last season, but still ... the Stumps let Carey go and he helps lead the Argos to a GC win.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I heard about the signing. This will give the team leverage should they want to resign Carey. He is the type of back who would fit very well into the Argos offense IMO.

That's great, but he's heading into his third season so I'd be surprised if he's not on an expiring contract.

This article from February 15 says he was extended. It doesn't say through when, but I assume it is beyond the initial 2-year period.

Excellent! Thank you for finding that. IMO had been a FA, Ottawa (and maybe other teams) would have made a hard push for him.

By the end of the season, RD had the 3-man RB rotation clicking better than ever. Adeboboye and McMoney were getting the ball more often and more successfully. Unfortunately for Carey if you go committee at RB you can’t pay one guy significantly more than the others. Brown is getting what, $40k less than Carey, $60k?

McMahon was running the ball with success. Adeboboye wasn't really.
