Baylis was part of a very good Argos defense in the late 1980's before being traded to BC in the Matt Dunigan deal.
The story is a bit odd in that Baylis was supposed to be inducted into the CFHOF in 2020, but he could not be located to, presumably, inform him of his induction. He should get inducted posthumously now.

Very sad. He dominated at times in 87 and 88. It’s a shame they couldn’t find him to induct him into the hall while still living. May he RIP.

I'll always think he was underrated. One of my favourites from those late 80s teams.
RIP

He was among some very good players that the Argos scouting staff discovered in the mid to late 1980's. That 1988 defense, in particular, was very strong. I noticed that both Glenn Kulka and Dan Sellers commented on the CFL History page when Baylis' death was announced there.

He was one of the best d-lineman the Argos/CFL had during that time. I remember him being a big difference maker periodically. Another Argo great from my youth now gone.

I met Jearld many times when I covered the league back in the 90's and found him to be a quiet, very humble person and a terrific football player. In fact, I didn't know it at the time but I had interviewed him in the Baltimore locker room after the 1995 Grey Cup in Regina and it turned out to be his last football game as a pro. I managed to have an excellent conversation with Jearld and his wife Lucy, who served as his agent. She was a real firecracker but had really looked out for Jearld's best interests.
He is deservedly a hall of famer both as a person and a football player.

Only 62. It seems few of his former teammates were able to stay in touch with Baylis after his career ended.

Leo Cahill was the one responsible for bringing these guys in. Even though they didn't win any Grey Cups, the 1987-88 Argos remain two of my favourite teams.

I was reading an article from November, 1987 about how much the Argos defense had improved over the course of the season. It wasn't primarily focused on Baylis, but he was a instrumental part of that team.
