Both teams have injury problems. Whoever gets more of their guys back this week may have the advantage.

If he misses another game, why didn't they just put Kelly on the 6 game? Save money, which they could have spent on other players, retained other players. And saved themselves from answering the same legitimate weekly questions about his health and is he or isn't he going to play, especially when you're on a 3 game losing skid to start.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 8:53 pm Kelly was limited in practice today. I doubt he will play.
MLSE is definitely in saving mode. No more Presidents (Ujiri will be next). But on the player side they still spend to their respective caps. And the $200,000 they could have saved on Kelly is such loose change to them, but very real money to the football team thay it could have kept some D-Line, or Amos, or Metchie, etc...paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 11:05 am Going on the six-game means you can't even practise until after four games have been played. They presumably felt he was capable of practising and would benefit from doing so. If he does end up missing the first six games, the decision to one-game him will bear scrutiny. However, we also need to ask whether the org would be willing to spend one-third of his salary on other parts of the team, while also paying him. That's an extra $200k that theoretically would be available, but is the org looking to spend above the cap the way they so clearly were in 2023? I'm dubious. Wouldn't surprise me if Pelley has tightened spending on all of MLSE's teams.
I don't think this had anything to do with spending more money on players. Kelly himself says he feels he can play. I believe this is strictly a safety decision by Dinwiddie to not put him at risk until he feels he can move around at 100%. They are evaluating this every day.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 11:30 amMLSE is definitely in saving mode. No more Presidents (Ujiri will be next). They loose to Ottawa, he is starting vs. Hamilton at home. So this is all speculation and with the benefit of hindsight. Given the serious injury and most in the winter did not expect him to be ready for the early part of the season, and the free agent challenges they were having again on the defence they could have gambled that $200K, and spread it around. To lose your entire D Line (the best one in the league) was not going to be easy to recover from early on.
No Paul, none of us understand that.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 2:56 pm I assume everyone here understands that there is no "saving" from putting someone on the 6-game. The $200k owing to Kelly for six games still gets paid to Kelly, but doesn't get charged against the cap. That means the team has the ability to spend an extra $200k without it being charged against the cap, but doing so would mean spending $400k in real dollars. If money is tight, who's to say MLSE would approve such an unbudgeted expenditure?
