Free agents worth pursuing
Been looking at lists on 3DN. Here are a few names that jump out at me (assuming MLSE is willing to spend to the limit, which is a big assumption, it seems):

QB Taylor Powell
DL Julian Howsare, Jake Ceresna, Jonah Tavai, Jaylon Hutchings, Lorenzo Mauldin, Clarence Hicks, Willie Jefferson, Brandon Barlow
DB Jamal Peters, Dashaun Amos, Stavros Katsantonis, Destin Talbert, Evan Holm, Deatrick Nichols
KR Isaiah Wooden
WR Kurleigh Gittens

Re: Free agents worth pursuing
If MLSE don't spend to a $6.5 M cap, when ticket revenues alone for them in 2026 will be $9 M they better have some answers.
Having said that...these players would look great in Double Blue
Mills or Oliveira
Ceresna, Hicks, Jefferson
Peters and Amos. Maybe Katsantonis
Gittens Jr

Re: Free agents worth pursuing
The attractiveness of the Argos as a destination for many free agents may be influenced by who the team selects as their next Head Coach. It would help if they could move quickly, and signing a proven winner like Mike O'Shea could make a huge difference. I hope that Argos management has that sense of urgency.
Re: Free agents worth pursuing
The only name on this list that would be a an outright "no" for me would be OL Jordan Murray. I am not impressed with him. Has great size, but IMO is slow, and thus susceptible to being beaten by quick edge rushers.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 11, 2025 9:08 am Been looking at lists on 3DN. I am not sure given his age and years in the league that Willie Jefferson would be worth the $ if he were to sign, and I would not think Cerezna would come back east, since I think his wife has ties out west.
Re: Free agents worth pursuing
My first choice would be Allen. There have been reports that B.C. will ask him to take a lower salary so he might be agreeable to returning to the Argos--and the team really needs am OT of his calibre.
Re: Free agents worth pursuing
This season was a disaster for Allen, given his injuries. Undoubtedly, his next contract is going to be lower wherever he goes. Bringing him back to Toronto would be worth exploring.

While there are some names out there, a lot of these guys are at that tipping point where they’re on the downside of their careers. Not wise to overpay for any of these guys. If you can get one of those backs for value, sure. Unfortunately, guys I do like, like Kats and Gittens, the team already has young studs in those positions. Argos need to prioritize the re-tooling of their lines as the rest of the roster doesn’t look too bad. No need to spend $ on flashy toys this off-season.

I disagree re Katsatonis. Slwyka looked very good this season, but IMO he's well below the level of Katsantonis, and the latter's NAT status makes him even more valuable. I agree we don't really need Gittens altho if Ungerer walks and we continue to play three NAT receivers, we will need a replacement for him.ArgoZ wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 11:21 am While there are some names out there, a lot of these guys are at that tipping point where they’re on the downside of their careers. Do you think Safety was much a problem though? One that requires big free agency money? Both Slwyka and Blackburn are only 24. Lots of time to grow into more coverage roles. Slwyka finally laying some lumber late season had me smiling. I’d try to resign Franklin and spend the rest of the money on the lines.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 3:24 pmI disagree re Katsatonis. I agree safety is not a major area of weakness, but NAT talent and depth (across the board) seems to be. I don't know that I'd throw a lot of money at Katsantonis. But upgrades are needed pretty well everywhere IMO. INT receiver is one exception although we do need at least a depth piece to replace Daniels.ArgoZ wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 4:11 pmDo you think Safety was much a problem though?
