New YouTube channel archiving CFL news clips

I’m pleased to announce the launch of a new YouTube channel that might be of interest to fans here.

Canadian Football Time Machine (https://www.youtube.com/@CanadianFootballTimeMachine) is a channel I created to archive and share historical television news, feature and highlight reports about the Canadian Football League. I’m sharing hundreds of hours of non-game content I recorded over the past four decades. This includes short stories reported on local and national news broadcasts, as well as longer programs such as TSN’s CFL Report, the old Schenley Awards, CFL draft broadcasts, etc. Also feature and news material that was originally included in game telecasts.

Given the volume of material I recorded, it will literally take me years to upload it all. The number of clips will eventually be in the thousands. So far I’ve uploaded about 100 clips dating back to 1986. I’m currently uploading 10 new clips each day, and will be moving along chronologically.

A few highlights from the initial burst of uploads:

The videos published on Canadian Football Time Machine contain copyrighted material. No copyright infringement is intended, and all rights to the content belong to its owner(s). These videos are being uploaded solely for educational and archival/preservation purposes under fair use/fair dealing, and are not intended for commercial use.

Paul - is that Vic Rauter doing that report on Greer ? Was he working in the States then?

The Browns (and other NFL teams) made a big mistake in not evaluating Greer's receiver talent, IMO. When he was later with the 49ers he was behind all-time great Jerry Rice and another star receiver in John Taylor, but why he was not with some other teams in pass catching need help? His best NFL season was his last with the Lions (i recall seeing him catch a long-bomb TD pass on MNF i think it was) - but he should have been starting somewhere there before that.

Felix Wright went from the Ticats to be a top notch NFL safety, first with the Browns.

Rauter was sent by TSN to Cleveland to do that reporting. He was based in Toronto then (as now).

I've long been wanting to watch Grey Cup IX, a 23-0 win by the Argonaits Rowing Club over Edmonton.

I have been enjoying the clips that Paul has been posting. Weirdly enough, I feel like TSN, through Sportsdesk and its CFL Reports may have covered the league better and more in-depth in the 1980s than it does today. However, I wonder whether teams didn't grant much more access to players and coaches, including assistants, back then than they do today. For example, there was a great feature from 1987, I think, about what preparation looked like for Argos coaches and players.

Also, how can you not love the theme music for the CFL Report?!

Finally, Mark Jones was an excellent reporter for TSN in the GTA.

I have also enjoyed the clips that Paul has been posting. Neat seeing early coverage of Pinball's career in the CFL.
