2026 CFL Amateur Draft

Well, it is Draft Week, so I thought I would initiate a new thread about the topic. NFL Amateur Draft has concluded and now fans get to see which CFL prospects are either signing professional contracts or accepting Mini Camp offers with NFL teams. I was thinking Argos could have drafted an immediate starter at RT in Kevin Cline, but he signed with an NFL team as a UDFA.

Yeah, that likely eliminates Cline for at least a year or two from being in the CFL.

From a highly uninformed fan here is my preferred Argo draft choices, with alternatives (in brackets) in case 1st choice is already taken:
at #2 --Bell OT (Henning)
at #11--Demontagnac (Ojutalayo)
at #16--Cromwell (Elad)
at #22--Boutin (Latendresse Regimbald)
at #23--Marios (Stuart DB)
at #30--Janvier (Vreugdenhil)
at #40--Cumberbatch (Gauthier)
at #49--Diouf (Schechinger)
at #57--Smith (Mombo)
at #67 Shipley (McBean)

Note--would have chosen Henning at #2 but his outstanding athletic talent might attract even more NFL attention

Please feel free to comment (criticize) on these choices

Not sure how Cline rates being this top prospect? - maybe a getting more common example nowdays of a guy who qualifies late for the CFL draft (cause one of his parents is Canadian), and being from a US college program gets the CFL scouts all ga ga over the guy; and then their disciples at 3 Down dutifully report the rating.

But Cline was just a one year starter in college ball (thru 6 seasons?), and aside from a super strong bench press # at testing, the rest of the results were average to sub-par; that plus according to 3 Down's report via Pro Football Focus, he gave up 22 QB pressures and 5 QB sacks last season at OT (in what - 10 games or so) .

I hope the Argos go nowhere near this guy unless he's available in the later round as a flyer/gamble type pick.

Some interesting choices shatto, and covers a bunch of position groups.

I'd like to see them go: #2 - receiver (DeMontagnac - should be there for sure, can't see Ottawa going there), #11 - the top DB / safety prospect they like (Cromwell / Elad - however, both of these guys are recovering from injuries), #16 - D-line (DT Notice, or a DE like Parks), #22 - O-line (if A. Diouf is still there and it sounds like he will be = one of the most under-rated CFL draft prospects in ages IMO; #23 - another DB ( a number of real athletic U Sports guys to chose from - like Gauthier or Stuart); #30 - a RB like Mombo or Asselin - should be able to wait till this pick or even later to get one of the RBs; # 40 - another receiver - one of the under-rated guys like Houde (StFX); and with one of the last 3 picks I hope they can get another under-rated player - like DT Tenney (Laurier) or OG Schechinger - both proven all-star U Sports players; please stay away from "athlete" testers who have proven little in college ball play.

I watched some of the NFL Draft. Following are the Canadian players who are giving the NFL a try. There may well be others invited to mini camps in the days ahead.

Kevin Cline (OL) signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins
Niklas Henning (OL) going to Indianapolis Colts rookie mini camp
Albert Reese IV (OL) signed contract with Carolina Panthers
Logan Taylor (OL) selected 202 by Los Angeles Chargers

Rohan Jones (TE) signed contract with Los Angels Rams
Malick Meiga (Rec) signed contract with Carolina Panthers

Wesley Bailey (DL) signed contract with Los Angeles Rams
Rene Konga (DL) signed contract with Miami Dolphins
Akheem Mesidor (DL) selected 22nd by Los Angeles Chargers

Malcolm Bell (DB) going to Cleveland Browns rookie mini-camp
Benji Sangmuah (DB) going to Indianapolis Colts rookie mini camp

Daniel Djaborme (LB) going to Washington Commanders rookie mini-camp

NFL draft picks aren't going to show up in the CFL for several years, if ever (and probably never). Undrafted free agent signees are probably gone for 1 to 2 years with 2 years being the most likely outcome. 99% of mini-camp attendees will have nothing come of that. The one exception was Cory Greenwood, but that’s incredibly rare.

I wasn't aware that Jude Bowry was Canadian

You are correct. Jude Bowry is American. I am not sure why I thought he was Canadian. Oops.

In the recent past the Argos were pretty deep in Canadian talent and perhaps could be a little more patient waiting on some of their drafted players to sign but this year they hopefully draft players they are confident will be in training camp as their Canadian talent has eroded the last season or two.
