Re: Chad Kelly's Interceptions
Kelly is being paid $615,000 for the 2026 season. Apparently his agent broke off contract extension talks recently and is waiting till the end of the season to resume. I presume he will end up getting Rourke like money, and deservedly so.
Rourke is scheduled to earn $684,700 in hard money for the 2026 season, $699,700 for 2027, and $704,700 for 2028.
Alexander is scheduled to earn $404,000 in hard money in 2026, Collaros is being paid 600,000, Mitchell was to be paid 500,000, Harris is being paid $455,300, and Fajardo is being paid 395,000 for 2026.
I wonder if the couple of hundred thousand dollars saved on the QB position makes much of a difference in terms of a team’s ability to sign other good players, given that all star caliber players earn that amount or more.
Anyone who thinks the Argos should get rid of Kelly is nuts as it will be near impossible to replace his output, and I am sure that there are other teams like Ottawa who would be more than happy to have him and pay him what he is worth.

Kelly's contract
This is discussed in the "Interceptions" thread but probably merits its own. Maybe mods could move Unplayable's latest post into here since it relates to the contract.
Here's an interesting piece on 3DN about Kelly's agent wanting to have contracts tied to a percentage of the cap. We have been led to believe the league's refusal to allow that is why Mital was signed only for 2026 and 2027 rather than for longer. If Kelly et al can't get this changed in time for his next contract, will he sign a one-year deal (with Toronto or someone else)?

Re: Kelly's contract
I fully expect him to sign a 1 year deal here. I can't see him wanting to play anywhere but Toronto or (GASP) Hamilton to stay as close to his Buffalo home as possible. Once they know more how the 2028 cap is affected by the TV deal, I think he will be the first $1M dollar player of the cap era. Then Rourke and Alexander will likely pass him on their next deals. My guess is 800k for 2027paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2026 3:26 pm This is discussed in the "Interceptions" thread but probably merits its own. Paid condo on Barton Street could pry Kelly to Hamilton?AngeloV wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2026 3:56 pmI fully expect him to sign a 1 year deal here. Re: Kelly's contract
The Argos ownership should make this a priority at the conclusion of the season. The price only goes higher should Kelly lead them to a Grey Cup. The team had to wait and see, at the start of the season, to see if he could still play at full capability. Very early on he proved that. They could have signed him to a one year extension in June or July probably for less than what it will cost them now.
But this is an ownership group that does not mind paying up for "talent".....Guerrero Jr., Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Bobrovsky, etc

Re: Kelly's contract
I suspect Kelly, like Mital, will sign through 2027 and then look for long-term deals after that as the increase in the salary cap will be better known by then.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2026 9:49 am The Argos ownership should make this a priority at the conclusion of the season. Re: Kelly's contract
Rogers pay Vladimir Guerrero Jr $245,000 per game. He hit 9 HR in 2026. Only 1 HR was hit at home because he added the roles of cheerleader, Gatorade boy, and hr jacket dry cleaner to his team leadership responsibilities.
Chad Kelly is the first QB in 2026 to pass for over 5,000 yards, and did so only playing 4 of 15 games at home. He has not been extended yet.
Life is funny.

Not a good comparison. One has revenues coming out of their asses and the other operates at a loss year in and year out.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2026 5:02 pm Rogers pay Vladimir Guerrero Jr $245,000 per game.
