My alma mater the University of Ottawa will probably beat up on the lesser teams, but not be able to compete with the Western and Lauriers of the world. Such has been life for 10-15 years now.

I got to watch some OUA football on the weekend on OUA TV. The Guelph - Carleton game was fun. The Guelph team has a two quarterback system with a traditional drop back quarterback, Tristan Aboud, and running quarterback like Tre Ford, Marshal McCray. Fun to watch. Justin Dunk did some game review at half time and at the end of the game. It was well done.
Heard the Hamilton Radio Feed on Laurier-McMaster Game. Peter Dyakowski was doing the colour commentary. Wouldn't be surprised to see him on TSN in couple of years. Laurier is possibly the best OUA team this year. We will see if they can finally beat Western.
Watched a bit of the Western - Ottawa game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Western running back Keanu Yazbeck in the CFL one day. He has better acceleration and speed than the other Western running back Keon Edwards. We will see how he performs at next years combine.
Western still have the dominant ground game, and unless a team with a stout run D can limit them, they will get killed; that or a high powered offence that can win a shoot-out (like Laurier perhaps). Though a Western vs. Windsor smash-mouth ground game battle might be interesting - we sill get to see that in U Sports ball, and it's mostly long gone from the CFL (though the new look EE have flashed a bit of it lately)
Top U Sports RBs are still getting ignored or written-off by the CFL GOB club; don't care how slow a 40 Edwards runs, a back with that blend of balance, vision and power should be getting a look by a CFL team that gets these RB skills. Andy Fantuz ran a 5 second forty at his CFL Combine - gee, wonder if he could play in the CFL ? Matthew Peterson was a later draft pick by the Ticats and got cut; Chisari & Nelmes were not drafted at all. Yazbeck, or FX's Bussey will need to run a 4.4 range 40 to have any hope of even a half-@$$ed CFL look. The GOBs prefer their American tailbacks and continue to trot out mediocres like James Butler and his horrible sub 5 yards/ carry CFL career average.
And don't look for any of Senecal, Elgersma , Desjardins or Tachinski to get any real CFL look either; the GOBs will bring in any American Div III or NAIA QB they can drag up here instead.
I really enjoy the U Sports season and get to watch some Q games on TVA; also have tuned into OUA TV a bit; CanWest has some sort of pay TV package i think. And I follow every week's games in the boxscores and reports on the U Sports site. It's just sad or pathetic there is no National TV or game of the week to watch - the lack of respect for Canadian football in it's own country that limits the CFL, is so obvious and telling.
It's just frustrating to hear talk of the CFL draft prospects of some of the great players in U Sports ball when it's obvious the GOB club of myopic dullards have a dim view of a lot of them to begin with.

Any CFL team that wants to invest the time and resources to really scout Canadian talent - north and south of the border will be richly rewarded.

I remember watching Jeff Avery and Neil Lumsden play there before my Dad started taking me to Rough Rider games. Great teams in the 70s.

I saw an Ottawa player with the surname Avery on his back. I wonder if it is his son?

If related, more likely his grandson. Jeff Avery has to be in his 70’s now.

You're right. Where have all the years gone? It seems like just yesterday that Avery was playing for the Rough Riders.

Jeff Avery has been doing Ottawa (Rough Riders thru RedBlacks) football radio color commentary for decades now it seems. Very, very good at it too IMO - well spoken, succinct, breaks down plays and formations. Blows away pretty well all TSN TV guys trying to do the same, but i guess on radio they are not directed to follow their 'game notes" like we have to put up with in the likes of Suitor's boring blather.
