So they must have extended Williams at some point between last April and now. Good sleuth work, gil, especially since there is no way to check CFL transactions for 2023 anywhere online.
I agree Jones fits just fine as a backup LB who gets used pretty freguently in defensive packages and is an outstanding special teamer.

With McManis and Jones signed and Williams already under contract, it only leaves Pickett to be signed and the league's best linebacker crew is back together. IMO, Jones would be a regular starter on just about any other CFL team.
The team has recruited strongly with both DBs and WRs. Perhaps the team is looking at the possible need of replacing both CBs.
Peters is a high priority to get signed especially with Stiggers heading south.
Another high priority player who doesn’t get a lot of mention is Boris Bede who can do all facets of kicking at a very high level.
Hopefully this turns out to be a productive week for Pinball and the gang!

MLB Jordan Williams has been traded to the rival Hamilton Tiger Cats as per 3 Down Nation
https://3downnation.com/2024/01/29/h...nto-argonauts/
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have acquired Canadian linebacker Jordan Williams from the Toronto Argonauts. The trade also included eight draft picks.
Toronto will receive Hamilton’s first-round pick (fifth overall) and two third-round picks (24th and 25th overall) in the 2024 CFL Draft as well as a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft. The Argonauts also received the negotiation rights to American receiver Deontay Burnett.
Hamilton will receive Toronto’s first-round pick (seventh overall), second-round pick (16th overall), and fourth-round pick (36th overall) in the 2024 CFL Draft along with a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft.
Williams recorded 48 defensive tackles and four special teams tackles as a member of the Argonauts this past season, his first with the club. He was originally selected with the first overall pick in the 2020 CFL Draft by the B.C. Lions and made 181 defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, one sack, one interception, and three forced fumbles in Vancouver.
The trade has reunited the 29-year-old with Ed Hervey, who was the general manager of the Lions when B.C. traded up to select Williams back in 2020. Hervey was named the general manager of the Ticats earlier this off-season as part of a reshuffling of the team’s front office.
Williams was born in Baltimore, Md. but qualified for Canadian status in the CFL through his mother, who is a citizen of Canada.

I'm not sure I like this trade (in a vacuum). Losing another Canadian starter.

Hmmm; interesting - didn't really get much in return for a proven LB in Williams; just a bit of draft shuffling.
Doesn't appear a lot in return for a former 1st overall draft selection. The Argos must not have been that impressed with his performance last year. So we basically got a 5th, 24th, and 25th draft choices and lost 7th, 16th and 36th draft choices. There were a few other things include in the trade like the rights to a WR who is under contract in the
Doesn't appear to be a lot for a former 1st overall draft choice. the Argos could not have been that impressed with Williams performance last year to trade him so cheaply. They got 5th, 24th and 25th draft choices and lost 7th, 16th and 36th. There a few other things in the trade, like a WR presently under contract in the UFL. Does that mean Jones is the new MLB or will Cassar get a crack at the position?
Argos must really love Burnett because otherwise it appears to me that we got fleeced. Of course, I like Williams a lot more than some do on this forum.

Sorry for the confusing post---hit wrong buttons in haste.
AJ is a fan favorite... and seems to be a good guy ....we might loose a few in ticket sales if he splits... He is pretty marketable as well for which ever team gets him... Should be priority IMO but what do I know...
