But in the current media environment, waiting for the official announcement is not the option it once was. Everyone is chasing every tidbit of news, and the impetus to be first has never been stronger. A reporter working that huge story was presented with an opportunity to speak to one of the decision makers, and he grabbed it. Whatever he did afterwards on Twitter is between him and his conscience, but asking an owner of the Leafs to comment on the possibility the greatest coach in hockey would be signed to the biggest contract in history was simply doing his job.

You can be sure that Shoalts wasn't the only reporter working the story at that very moment -- he was just the only one ballsy enough to ask a question of someone in a position to know what was going on. The idea that a part-owner is not a valid source -- really? Who do you think signed off on Babcock's signing? And Shanahan was not available at that moment, but one of his bosses was. So you ask the question. I'd have done it, too. That's how news reporting works -- you gather information from any source that has the information, without regard to whether or not doing so advances or damages the agenda of the source. If reporters worried about that stuff, a lot of info we need to know would never become known. Maybe reporters shouldn't have asked Rob Ford about his drug use because he only wanted to talk about building subways that day.
Did he have to ask the question? Sure.
Should he have asked Tannenbaum and Cope? Sure.
Did he have to ask it DURING the Argos press conference instead of AFTER it while Tannenbaum and Cope were still in the room? No.

If it was clear they would be available for post-conference scrums and one-on-ones, I agree. I don't know if they were being made available afterwards (and whether or not that was known in advance) but I suspect they weren't.

How come there were not a dozen other hockey reporter's there asking the same question. Because they knew there was a press conference scheduled later that day to discuss the Babcock signing which was no secret. It was bad taste on Shoalts part and disrespectful to ask that question in that forum which was a live broadcast to discuss the Argo ownership.

I only brought up Babcock to point out that the new ownership on day one could see what they were up against with the Toronto media when the first question they are asked at an Argo press conference is a Leaf question. Everyone in the Argo organization that was in attendance must have been made to feel like crap at that moment. It was completely unnecessary.
    GO ARGOS!!!

Shoalts is a goof, as are most guys in the Toronto media today. Good journalism, especially sports journalism died in this city years ago. You're better off going to fan sites like this one on the internet to get a pulse of what fans are really looking for. When media conglomerates own sports team, do you really expect so-called journalists to be impartial, or will they tow the party line like Bob McCown in order to get brownie points. The answer is obvious.

They just seem to try and out BS each other and see how their comments can get under the skin of sports fans. Basically a bunch of pricks!!!

I would love to see this become BMO's permanent look.

Even one side blue with the A and one side red with a white leaf would be nice.

I forgot to post this after the season opener against Hamilton.

I am in the club seats section, which includes access to the club lounge under the stands.
In that lounge is a glass cabinet.
I was impressed to see it full of banners, one for each of the 16 Argonaut Grey Cup championships.
I found this added to the sense that BMO Field is the home of the Argonauts, not that the Argonauts are just guests in the stadium (a la Rogers Centre).

I get the feeling that once this year is over, there will be more outside signage for the Argos, including some banners, and some stuff that might be permanent.

I've heard they are being moved to the stadiums basement to make room for the Voyageurs Cup.

I posted these broad impressions in the Tailgate thread. So, FYI, as per your request. Cheers!

The Shipyard was packed with people of all ages, Argo and Tiger-Cat fans. Supported by energetic musical entertainment, a very festive mood all round....The food was very good and it was good to see there was a variety. Likewise, the beer was selling for $4. We opted for Premium - very cold Hockley Valley Dark - in a tall can. It sold for $7. Good stuff. The Shipyard idea looks like a keeper!

Can someone tell me the parking options for an Argo game? I know about the tailgate lot but are there cheaper options elsewhere on site?

Try Liberty Village, north of the railroad tracks. (You cut through the GO station to get there.) e.g. the lot at liberty and atlantic. You can park for something like $10 up there, it's only a few blocks.

I discovered this lot last game. It is a super fast walk to the stadium.
It's us vs the rest of the country

I noticed that a lot of people were buying the 16 ounce cans at $7 - the 12 ounce can were $4 Three of the big cans were the equivalent of Four of the 12 ounce, yet THREE of the big cans = $21 FOUR of the small cans = $16
