As a young kid going to Argonaut games in the 1970’s Jim Corrigall was one of my favorite players to watch. Will wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2026 6:46 pm https://x.com/KentStFootball/status/207 ... 56424?s=20

One of the things that saddens me is that it felt like there was distance between Corrigall and the Argos since he was let go after the 1981 season. It's also a shame that he missed out on the 1982 and 1983 seasons after all the bad Argos teams he had to play on from 1974 to 1981.

Truly one of the greats. As Ravi noted, it's sad that he seemed to sever ties with the Argos (or vice versa) after he retired. And football really took a toll on him -- I imagine we will eventually learn that he had CTE.

One of the reasons to go when I first started going to games in 1978. May he rest in peace.

RIP Jim; one of the greatest Argos all-time and also one of the greatest D players in the CFL all-time !

Here's an article from 2019 about Corrigall: https://www.record-courier.com/story/sp ... 797851007/
When I did a search of him tonight, some great old photos came up. In 1981, he focused on coaching for the first 7 games - all losses - before resuming his playing career for the rest of the season. He retired in February, 1982.

Re: RIP Jim Corrigall
Very sad news. A great Canadian football player who played the American game, and the Canadian game at the highest level possible.
I don’t have the insight into the relationship dynamics between Jim and the Argos. I didn't arrive in Toronto from Ottawa until late 1978. And the Argos did not become my favorite team until after 1983.
Does anyone have any idea why the relationship was strained? He is on the Wall of Honour. The organization should have had him front and centre as a proud link to a celebrated history of a franchise dating back to 1873.

I don't have any insights into what happened, but he implied in interviews from late 1970s through 1981 that he was completely fed up with the team's consistently terrible management and coaching. I'm hoping to delve into this a bit for a possible writing project but sadly, won't be able to get his direct perspective.
