Re: Game Thread-Visiting Regina Part Deux
is there any doubt the East is the least, the West is the best.
Ticats WTF are they doing taking out Ford on the hail mary last play for a
stone cold QB who has not been in for a single play
Argos so many errors it is a joke. Lets count up just a few...
Blocked convert returned for a 2-point score.
Touching an official.
Coach who does not how a Challenge works.
OFFSIDE on a field goal WTF on a field goal you dont even move , you just stand there and watch the kick.
And you cannot even do that...
Good thing Argos lost this one, because any team with that many screw-ups deserves to lose.
Man oh man is there a lot to work on before Labour Day, but honestly, regardless,
the West is winning the Cup this year.

This and the loss in Hamilton - both Saturday night games - piss me off to no end with the loss in Winnipeg not far behind.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2026 10:16 pm Most maddening loss of the season...if not in recent memory.
They gave this game to the Riders. A 4-point swing on converts (the first missed one after a mysterious and/or stupid penalty on Ungerer), a missed 36 yard FG, two Kelly INTs that seemed to be on him (but perhaps AV or another expert can enlighten me if one or both of those weren't on him), a missed challenge by Miller early on the Riders' game-winning TD drive when the receiver clearly caught the ball out of bounds, an awful offside call on McFadden that resulted in the winning points, and a bad challenge by Miller with more than 2 minutes left that had no chance of succeeding and cost them a valuable timeout. Am I missing anything? I will add that the challenge that was disallowed early in the fourth quarter that resulted in a 10 yard penalty had zero chance of succeeding as I am pretty sure Miller was trying to challenge illegal contact which you can’t challenge. I am f#@%^&g pissed off with this loss.

you covered it well, but there was also the touching-an-official penalty...what a silly game of Argo mistakes galore.

Kinda wild that we abandoned our run game completely, especially how effective it was last week. I think our biggest run play was Arbuckle's first hand-off in the 3rd quarter. With the amount of times we throw it, Kelly is bound to throw a pick or two. Defense was decent. Specials teams really let us down tonight.
Missed opportunity to get some cushion between us and the Tiger Cats especially since they lost earlier on in the day. Labour Day is going to be wild. Wouldn't call it a must win because I believe we have a game in hand on our heated rivals, but a win would be a massive confidence boost for the team.

Re: Game Thread-Visiting Regina Part Deux
No point in getting upset about this loss as this team just cannot get out of its own way.
I feel a bit sorry for the defence who were on the field most of the second half due to very conservative and downright dumb play calling, but of course they made their own dumb plays.
What is with throwing the ball on a second and two and then kicking it away with just a couple of min left in the game and the RRs offence rolling over the defence? Just stupid play calling by the coach, just one among his other errors. I think the Argos had 1 rushing yard at half time.

Re: Game Thread-Visiting Regina Part Deux
Credit the Riders for what? Argos shot themselves in ways I never thought were possible. That Ungerer penalty for delay of game that pushed back the opening PAT.....all for getting the football for Cassar. Miller's delay of game penalty...Blocked PAT that goes for a 2 point converts followed by a Riders FG to end the half, that was what started it. Harris was average at best & Argos still couldn't come away with the win. Watching them win in those hideous uniforms really added to my ire. Argos will host a playoff game no doubt, but they have to figure out how to beat the opposing team instead of themselves.
Congratulations to Shawn Lemon for his 2 Sacks, a FF that resulted in a Safety (almost an Argos TD) & a TFL. 8 Sacks in 5 games, tied for the league lead. Does he merit a contract for next season?

The number of stupid mistakes is off the charts. Two INTs that were either terrible decisions or terrible throws (or both). The Ungerer illegal-participation penalty that pushed a convert attempt back 10 yards and disrupted the kicker's timing. The touching-an-official penalty. Three makeable missed kicks, one of which not only took a point off the board but gave the opponent two points. Miller not knowing he couldn't challenge a play two minutes after it ended, and challenging a play that was clearly not going to be overturned, and not challenging a play that likely would have been overturned. McFadden's offside penalty. Eleven mistakes, at least eight of which were mental errors. I've no doubt missed a few others. That might be the stupidest loss ever.

The Argonauts are highly aggravating to watch at times, you summed up their stupidity quite nicely.ArgoRavi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2026 10:37 pmThis and the loss in Hamilton - both Saturday night games - piss me off to no end with the loss in Winnipeg not far behind.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2026 10:16 pm Most maddening loss of the season...if not in recent memory.

Not sure what the deal is with Chad Kelly but his decision making on some of his throws is mind boggling.
On the play he got hurt he left himself wide open to take a horrific hit when he should have thrown the ball away, on at least one play he could have taken off and ran for a first down but decided to throw a pass that fell incomplete.
The O-Line reverted back to their mediocre (I’m being kind) play which in fairness to Kelly forced him to make some bad decisions, only so many hits a QB can absorb before it starts to affect him.
As many have touched on special teams were a complete mess all game.
Brady Lidster looks promising but is too erratic at this time.
Marc Liegghio had a somewhat bumpy start to his career with Winnipeg and is now one of the more dependable kickers in the CFL so patience can be a virtue with young kickers.
Another aggravation is the fact the Argos have had ample opportunity to put a stranglehold on second place in the East but through some boneheaded decisions and play have managed to keep Hamilton in the mix, frustrating beyond belief!!

Another winnable game lost and a missed opportunity to put more distance between us and you know who. So, coming off a breakout game on the ground, the decision is made to completely abandon the run game (4 rushes for 15 yards). It's not like we were trailing by a considerable number of points throughout the game which would necessitate throwing ball a ton. I'll remind everyone that Chad stated in an interview a couple of years ago that a running game is a QB's best friend. I've come to question some of coach Miller's decision making as the season has progressed (that third and inches call against the Elks being the worst transgression). He seems a bit in over his head to me. I feel that too much pressure is being put on Chad to play "hero ball", which has lead to some bad decisions and far too many INT's. Not only does passing practically every down make us predictable, it's also hazardous to Kelly's health.

Re: Game Thread-Visiting Regina Part Deux
A good weekend for the CFL... all games were well attended it seems ( no brutal rain storms ). Home teams won all the games... All games were close right till the end... August seems to be best time for the league getting people out.... plus no competition from NFL, NHL etc .... the labour day matches are set up nicely... Think best game ever seen Zac and Brady O play...
Looking forward to going to the Hammer next weekend to see the most important game of the season for both teams.
Go ARGOS !!!!!
